¿Quién engañó a Glorfindel?
Glorfindel es un personaje ficticio, perteneciente al mundo creado por J.R.R. Tolkien. Aunque es un personaje importante ha sido ignorado abiertamente en las obras cinematográficas y de televisión que se han producido. Como seguidor de los libros del escritor yo me pregunto: ¿Por qué ha sido así? El señor de la casa de la flor dorada, una de las siete casas de Gondolin, Guardián de la séptima puerta. Luchó en las más importantes batallas del Silmarillion. Dio la vida, luchando contra un Balrog para salvar a los supervivientes de la caída de Gondolin. Los Valar, Mandos y Manwe, deciden reencarnarlo, devolverle la vida para que asista a Gandalf en su lucha contra Sauron. Con quien lo une una gran amistad. En la batalla de Fornost, el Brujo de Angmar y los Nazgul huyen ante su presencia y es donde detiene al rey de Gondor, quien quiere perseguirlo. Es él quien hace la profecía: El capitán de los Nazgul no podrá ser muerto por hombre alguno.

En el libro es Glorfindel, como Elfo importante de Rivendel y lugarteniente de Elrond es enviado a buscar a Frodo. Es reconocido como uno de los pocos que puede enfrentar a los nueve espectros en solitario. Y así lo hace, encuentra al grupo de Aragorn, toma a Frodo y con su poder hace que el rio Bruinen, crezca, barriendo con su crecida a los Nazgul. El señor Jackson consideró que era mejor empoderar al personaje femenino de Arwen, que, si bien era muy importante, no era una Elfa que destacara por sus dotes de guerrera. Destacaba por su belleza y cierto don de la clarividencia, heredado de su padre.

La excusa de Jackson de no incluirlo en otras tomas, para no saturar la película con demasiados personajes se torna confusa y poco convincente. Se entiende que las películas son, en grosso modo, una visión personal del director acerca de la obra adaptada. Sin embargo, uno se queja. No costaba nada hacerlo, incluir el personaje, rescatar a Frodo, que peleara en la defensa de Gondor. Si le dio protagonismo a cientos y cientos de extras en dicha batalla. ¿Por qué no incluyó a Glorfindel? Quizás, es inútil hacer la pregunta. He aquí que la comprensión acerca de la decisión del cineasta o productor en cuanto a una obra tan vasta como la de Tolkien se torna difusa.

Ahora mismo se proyecta la serie del señor de los anillos. Peor tratada. Donde el universo de Tolkien ha sido desfigurado y adaptado de una forma descuidada e inentendible. Tienes una hermosa, épica y bien estructurada historia. ¿Por qué la cambias tanto que no se parece a la original? Al menos Peter Jackson se toma algunas licencias, pero en gran porcentaje respeta la esencia de los libros. Queda la esperanza de ver mejoras en la segunda temporada y las venideras. Es Glorfindel parte importante de los acontecimientos que allí se narran. Queda la duda. ¿Incluirán a Glorfindel como parte de la trama o le seguirán dando importancia a personajes inventados, no pertenecientes a la obra de Tolkien? Arondir es un personaje llano. Del cual no se entiende la amargura y enojo que siempre porta. ¿Si incluyen este personaje tan simple, por qué no darle relevancia a uno que si la merece?Me pregunto una vez más: ¿Quién engaño a Glorfindel?
