The problem is that people tend to believe in people and not concepts. People can be killed, turned, brainwashed, whatever - it is the belief that remains. Those in power know that. They bring "belief" in their own self-sustaining concepts: "continuity of government", "law and order", "the flag", "the country". What YOU believe in, and what a minority believe in, is "good". Those in power never bring up "good". Because they can't. Too fuzzy for you? How about "I will not raise arms nor commit violence against another human being unless directly provoked by that human being". Do you believe in that? I do. "What if they threw a war and nobody came?" - a sixties ( maybe 70's) slogan that conveys far more truth than it's seeemingly naive message. Take it further. "we are all created equal" - a "self-evident" truth enshrined in the sacred "Declaration of Independence". I believe in that. That means no cops, no government, no authority whatsoever. No hierarchy. No bishops, cardinals or popes. No royalty. No credentials beside one's own reputation. What you're looking for is called "natural law" and it comes from......well, tha tthiing that everyone loves to hate...God.
