Si hay algo que no me gusta es que se emplee la retórica de los personajes estereotipados para enganchar a las masas, y aun peor que se creen libros donde la violencia, el sexo y las relaciones tóxicas se traten como un “estilo de vida” indispensable para los jóvenes. Encontré mucho de esto en After, un libro sacado de Wattpad que causó revuelo por su mensaje machista y torpemente sexista. Luego de leerlo, me quedó la seguridad de que la influencia retrograda está llenando las librerías con un único objetivo: vender mucho y enseñar poco.
Have you ever read a book so hideously put together that your head hurts? Part of me has. If there is something that I do not like, it is that the rhetoric of stereotypical characters is used to hook the masses, and even worse that books are created where violence, sex and toxic relationships are treated as an indispensable "lifestyle" for young. I found a lot of this in After, a book off of Wattpad that caused a stir for its macho and awkwardly sexist message. After reading it, I was sure that the retrograde influence is filling the bookstores with a single objective: to sell a lot and teach little.

Todos los personajes de esta novela son clichés, estereotipados y absurdos. No puedo comprender como es que, una chica prometedora lanza su vida al caño así como así, es decir, no hay una profundidad en sus pensamientos que la haga sentir humana o que explique con cabalidad la proeza de su adicción hacia un chico que es detestable desde todos los ángulos. Pareciera un libro de niños malcriados, donde el sexo y el alcohol es lo más indispensable. Y para colmo, está el tal Hardin que es malísimamente sexy, esbozado como ese hombre “malo” que una mujer necesita. ¡Vaya locura!
All the characters in this novel are clichéd, stereotyped, and absurd. I cannot understand how it is that a promising girl throws her life down the drain just like that, that is, there is no depth in her thoughts that makes her feel human or that fully explains the feat of her addiction to a boy who is detestable. from all angles. It seems like a spoiled children's book, where sex and alcohol are the most essential. And to top it all, there is the certain Hardin who is insanely sexy, outlined as that "bad" man a woman needs. After es una historia sobre el amor tóxico que vulnera la figura de la mujer fuerte, heroica y sobretodo independiente a la corriente machista. No me gusta para nada que se trate de influenciar las mentes más jóvenes con esta clase de mensajes sodomizados. Parte de esta novela precede de otras obras como Cincuenta Sombras de Grey, en las cuales ya se ha marcado un claro mensaje a la figura débil del género femenino y la necesidad de un hombre “fuerte” para sentirse amadas. No hay un mensaje más profundo que el sexo, el alcohol, las fiestas y la chica ingenua que intenta ser correspondida por un malhechor de la vida. En pocas palabras, es una historia vacía, armada bajo un concepto incorrecto y superficial.
After is a story about toxic love that violates the figure of the strong, heroic woman and above all independent of the macho current. I do not like at all that it is trying to influence younger minds with these kinds of sodomized messages. Part of this novel precedes other works such as Fifty Shades of Gray, in which a clear message to the weak figure of the female gender and the need for a "strong" man to feel loved has already been marked. Basta poco para decir que es una novela mediocre, sin un sustento emocionante ni una dirección fascinante. No es un romance, es una mala forma de tratar al amor como un vínculo de toxicidad. Además, está la manera en que la mujer es retratada; una figura débil, adicta al dolor que al que la somete un hombre que no vale la pena. Lo más doloroso, es que cada vez más este tipo de novelas inundan el fenómeno Wattpad, esa plataforma de libros donde es muy difícil conseguir algo que no tenga “sexo” ni “drogas” entre sus líneas argumentales. No recomiendo este libro a menos que seas un amante del cliché juvenil y la ingenuidad incomible. After es esa falsa imagen de los jóvenes, porque si a la realidad vamos, el papel de la mujer es, inclusive, mucho más fuerte que el del hombre.
Suffice little to say that it is a mediocre novel, without an exciting underpinning or a fascinating direction. It is not a romance, it is a bad way to treat love as a link of toxicity. Also, there is the way the woman is portrayed; a weak figure, addicted to the pain that a man submits her that is not worth it. The most painful thing is that more and more these types of novels flood the Wattpad phenomenon, that platform of books where it is very difficult to get something that does not have "sex" or "drugs" between its plot lines. I don't recommend this book unless you are a lover of youthful cliché and inedible naivety. After is that false image of young people, because if we come to reality, the role of women is even much stronger than that of men.

La personalidad de Tessa me resulta muy infantil y estresante, quería darle cabezazos cada vez que caía en las manipulaciones de Hardin (otro personaje inmaduro y realmente tóxico a niveles de Chernobyl). No pude evitar reírme con el titulo de tu post (porque no podría ser más acertado), así que me atrajo mucho desde la primera vez.XD
Jajaja sí, todo el libro se basa en pleitos Tontos y muy inmaduros. Lamentablemente, se ganó el corazón de los que suelen perderse en la baja literatura 😣. Jajaja gracias por leer.
