I have no idea if I should laugh or if I should cry

A friend of mine found in his mother's house three stamp albums calles Raíces históricas de México (Historic roots of Mexico in spanish) published by Novario Editorial. The first one was published in 1966, the second in the same year and the third one in 1967.

The three albums have all the stamps, so the collection is completed so to speak, and that actually makes them very valuable and some collectors would pay a lot of money for them, BUT...

The only way you could get these stamps was to buy original comic book editions of Comics from that year and tear down the 3rd and 4th pages of the issue, where the stamps were attached. First edition comic books from Novaro, which means that dozens, if not hundreds of issues had to be mutilated in order to complete the album set.

Obviously back then it was all part of the fun to tear the pages down to get the stamps but, if only we knew that each comic book teared would be worth hundreds of dollars each... well, then it doesn't sound so fun anymore...

So... I could laugh and tell my friend hey, you have thousands of dollars worth of three stamp albums or if I should cry with him because, in order to have the full album set, he must have teared down hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of comic books...

What do you think?
