Hola amigos, tenía tiempo que no pasaba por aquí y es que a pesar de que me encanta leer no había podido conseguir el tiempo para dedicarle a este pasatiempo, hace poco empecé un libro que se titula “Simón Rodríguez Maestro de América” del autor Antonio Pérez-Esclarín, un escritor español que ha vivido en Venezuela la mayor parte de su vida.
Cuando escuchamos el nombre de Simón Rodríguez, lo único que se nos viene a la mente es que fue el maestro del Libertador Simón Bolívar, y lo digo así porque me pasaba lo mismo, eso era lo único que sabía sobre él, pero ahora mi visión y conocimientos es más amplia hacia su persona y enseñanzas.
Hello friends, I haven't been here for a long time and despite the fact that I love reading, I have not been able to find the time to dedicate to this hobby. I recently started a book entitled "Simón Rodríguez Maestro de América" by Antonio Pérez-Esclarín, a Spanish writer who has lived in Venezuela most of his life.
When we hear the name Simón Rodríguez, the only thing that comes to mind is that he was the teacher of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, and I say this because the same thing happened to me, that was the only thing I knew about him, but now my vision and knowledge is broader towards his person and teachings.
En este libro no vamos a conocer nada sobre su niñez, solo su fecha de nacimiento, nombres de padres y hermanos. Este libro es una recopilación de su vida, luego de haberle otorgado el título de maestro en Caracas de 1791 cuando solo tenía 20 años de edad, con una visión progresista en cuanto a la educación que se estaba impartiendo en aquel momento e influenciado por los avances que se estaban presentando en esa área en Europa.
Como dije es una recopilación de su vida, porque el autor hacer un trabajo investigativo a través de cartas, libros, testimonios, revistas y diversos artículos donde se nombra parte de la vida de este gran maestro, de esta manera va armando un rompecabezas de forma cronológica sobre los pasos de Simón Rodríguez, que desde sus 26 años salió de Venezuela y nunca más volvió a tocar el suelo de su país. Su modelo pedagógico iba cobrando fuerza en sus ideas y de esta manera en cada país donde iba, siempre llegaba decidido a enseñar a otros, no fue solo en Venezuela dónde quiso implementar un nuevo sistema educativo, sino también en toda América Latina.
In this book we will not know anything about his childhood, only his date of birth, names of parents and siblings. This book is a compilation of his life, after he was granted the title of teacher in Caracas in 1791 when he was only 20 years old, with a progressive vision of the education that was being imparted at that time and influenced by the advances that were being presented in that area in Europe.
As I said, it is a compilation of his life, because the author made an investigative work through letters, books, testimonies, magazines and various articles where part of the life of this great teacher is named, thus putting together a puzzle chronologically on the steps of Simon Rodriguez, who since his 26 years left Venezuela and never touched the soil of his country. His pedagogical model was gaining strength in his ideas and in this way in every country where he went, he always arrived determined to teach others, it was not only in Venezuela where he wanted to implement a new educational system, but also throughout Latin America.
Este libro nos muestra lo incomprendido que fue en esa época, quien hoy es llamado “Maestro de América”, cómo fue tachado como loco por tener en mente un modelo educativo participativo y social, donde a las escuelas no solo se asistiera para aprender letras y números sino también un oficio como la carpintería, albañilería y otros, que ayudarían a la población a convertirse en autosuficientes. Tenía en su mente un modelo pedagógico que ni en la actualidad se ha implementado.
Al leer su vida, aciertos y desaciertos nos damos cuenta que era una persona con ideales y pensamientos muy fuertes y que nunca abandonó su idea de crear escuelas o talleres educativos. En aquel momento de la historia la educación no era una prioridad, se estaba librando la guerra de la independencia y el dinero se ocupaba para soldados y municiones. Así son las guerras. Entonces para un maestro que lo único que aspiraba era educar a toda la población sin distinción de razas ni sexos, era sumamente difícil a pesar de tener las mejores intenciones siempre terminaba mal.
This book shows us how misunderstood he was at that time, who is now called "Teacher of America", how he was labeled as crazy for having in mind a participatory and social educational model, where schools were not only attended to learn letters and numbers but also a trade such as carpentry, masonry and others, which would help the population to become self-sufficient. He had in mind a pedagogical model that has not even been implemented today.
As we read his life, successes and failures, we realize that he was a person with very strong ideals and thoughts and that he never abandoned his idea of creating schools or educational workshops. At that time in history education was not a priority, the war of independence was being fought and money was used for soldiers and ammunition. That's how wars are. So for a teacher whose only aspiration was to educate the entire population without distinction of race or sex, it was extremely difficult, despite having the best intentions, it always ended badly.
Creo que vivió sus mejores años en Europa, cuando también creó escuelas y enseñó idiomas allí. una vez que llegó a América Latina, todo se le hizo cuesta arriba a pesar de que contaba con el apoyo de su amigo Simón Bolívar. Rodríguez vivió muchos años más que Bolívar, siempre se lamentaba no haber estado con su amigo esos últimos años, tal vez se necesitaban uno al otro.
Así nos adentramos en su vida por Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador y Chile. Yo diría que es una vida de aventuras aunque no todas terminaron bien, pero siempre teniendo por delante su vocación como educador. Hasta el día de su muerte a sus 82 años de edad.
I think he lived his best years in Europe, when he also created schools and taught languages there, once he arrived in Latin America, everything went uphill, even though he had the support of his friend Simón Bolívar. Rodriguez lived many years longer than Bolivar, he always regretted not having been with his friend those last years, perhaps they needed each other.
And so we go into his life in Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile. I would say it was a life of adventures, although not all of them ended well, but always keeping in mind his vocation as an educator. Until the day of his death at 82 years of age.
Este es un excelente libro que recomiendo para los que desean conocer más sobre la vida de este personaje. Me encantó leer fragmentos de cartas, libros y testimonios de aquella época y que el autor dejó de manera textual en este libro.
This is an excellent book that I recommend for those who want to know more about the life of this character. I loved reading fragments of letters, books and testimonies of that time and that the author left in textual form in this book.

Una persona como una gran visión y que el tiempo le cumplió su sueño de una educación progresista que se ha puesto en práctica en algunos paises como Chile.
Pues si, en el libro hay muchos más datos interesantes de su vida y con respecto a su muerte nos cuentan exactamente como pasaron las cosas gracias al testimonio de unos de los asistentes.
Es un excelente libro para conocer su vida. A mí también me llamo la atención que luego de que se fue huyendo más nunca volvió a Venezuela.

Simón Rodríguez forjador de pensamientos de libertad y justicia. Revolucionario de ideas y grandes proyectos que para su época eran una amenaza porque se enfocaba en brindarle educación a las clases populares o de bajos recursos. Su historia es tan significante como la de nuestro libertador. Fué exiliado y adopto el nombre de Samuel Robinson y de allí parte la idea de formar las escuelas robinsonianas en base a su pensamiento

Siempre he encontrado curioso como este tipo de novelas siempre se obvia el hecho verificado que Rodríguez fue un maestro masón y que uso esas conexiones para obtener mucho conocimiento e influencia que fue vital para su carrera... Pero bueno, supongo que asi es la vida, lo que se hace en las sombras se queda allí para siempre, en las sombras.
