¡Hola amigos lectores! Hoy me pasó por acá para hablarles de un libro que me tuvo atrapada como hacía mucho no me pasaba y es de una escritora de mi país Argentina llamada Mar Petryk. Les estoy hablando de El pecador de Oxford.
Hello reader friends! Today I stopped by to tell you about a book that had me hooked as I hadn't been for a long time and it's by a writer from my country Argentina called Mar Petryk. I'm talking about The Oxford Sinner.
Este libro nos cuenta la historia de una psiquiatra llamada Isabelle Brown que un día recibe un paquete con una tarjeta de la persona menos deseada. Es que Isabelle tiene un pasado oscuro, ella se cambió de identidad y empezó una nueva vida hace 3 años atrás, cuando se enteró que se casó con un asesino serial apodado como "El pecador de Oxford". Él está en una cárcel de máxima seguridad desde entonces, pero es el jefe de una secta que posee miles de seguidores capaces de hacer cualquier cosa por complacerlo. Aunque Isabelle sabe que no le haría daño, su hermano le consigue al mejor guardaespaldas sobre la tierra, uno con un pasado misterioso que guarda relación con el de ella. This book tells the story of a psychiatrist named Isabelle Brown who one day receives a package with a card from the most unwanted person. Isabelle has a dark past, she changed her identity and started a new life 3 years ago, when she found out that she married a serial killer nicknamed "The Oxford Sinner". He has been in a maximum security prison ever since, but he is the head of a cult that has thousands of followers capable of doing anything to please him. Although Isabelle knows he wouldn't hurt her, her brother gets her the best bodyguard on earth, one with a mysterious past that is related to hers. Gael Evans will become her shadow, as he tries to discover what haunts him at night and binds him to the doctor. But danger lurks everywhere and no one can be trusted, not even his own shadow.
Este libro fue un boom en mi país el año pasado, una amiga se cansó de recomendármelo y yo no le hice caso, este es un consejo de mi parte: háganle caso a las recomendaciones de libros de sus amigos. Decidí leerlo en estos días y quedé atrapada por completo en esta trama. En pocas palabras: es buenísimo.
This book was a boom in my country last year, a friend of mine got tired of recommending it to me and I didn't listen to her, this is a piece of advice from me: listen to your friends' book recommendations. I decided to read it these days and I got completely caught up in this plot. In a few words: it's great.
No podía creer el grado de imaginación y perversión que tiene este libro, es oscuro, es repugnante por momentos. La escritora logra ponerse en la piel de asesinos sin piedad y lo hace de una manera excelente, aunque bastante gráfica para los impresionables.
I couldn't believe how imaginative and perverse this book is, it's dark, it's sickening at times. The writer manages to put herself in the shoes of merciless killers and does so in an excellent, if rather graphic way for the impressionable.
El libro me enganchó desde la primera oración y de ahí no pude parar, no lo terminé rápido por falta de tiempo, pero sino en 2 o 3 días lo liquidaba. Además venía de lecturas que me gustaban, pero tenían un ritmo lento, eran muy descriptivas o no me terminaban de encantar al final. Esta fue toda una sorpresa, tiene el equilibrio justo entre diálogo y descripciones, logra un buen clima de suspenso que te hace dar ganas de leer un capítulo más cada vez y así hasta el final.
The book hooked me from the first sentence and from there I couldn't stop, I didn't finish it quickly due to lack of time, but if not in 2 or 3 days I would finish it. Besides, I had been reading books that I liked, but they had a slow pace, were very descriptive or I didn't end up loving them at the end. This one was a surprise, it has the right balance between dialogue and descriptions, it achieves a good atmosphere of suspense that makes you want to read one more chapter at a time and so on until the end.
Los capítulos finales fueron muy fuertes, pero es todo lo que esperaba de una historia como esta. Me encantó como se desarrolló todo y el desenlace fue el apropiado. La verdad es que me saco el sombrero ante tanta genialidad por parte de la escritora Mar Petryk. Es la primera vez que leo algo de ella pero tengan por seguro que no será la última.
The final chapters were very strong, but that's all I expected from a story like this. I loved how it all unfolded and the denouement was just right. I really take my hat off to such genius on the part of author Mar Petryk. This is the first time I've read anything by her but rest assured it won't be the last.
No es un libro que recomiende a todos porque trata temas sensibles como asesinatos y escenas bastante gráficas en cuanto a maneras de matar. Hay un personaje en particular, que me pareció el más peligroso y perturbado de todos los de la secta, que práctica la taxidermia con seres humanos mientras todavía están vivos. Así que procedan con precaución si son sensibles a la sangre y demás.
It is not a book I would recommend to everyone because it deals with sensitive subjects such as murder and quite graphic scenes in terms of ways of killing. There is one character in particular, who I found to be the most dangerous and disturbed of all in the cult, who practices taxidermy on human beings while they are still alive. So proceed with caution if you are sensitive to blood and such.
De todos modos, sepan que yo amé este libro y que tiene de todo, hay romance, pasión, obsesión, misterio, suspenso, terror y muerte. Es muy completo. Así que por supuesto que lo recomiendo si les gustan este tipo de historias.
Anyway, know that I loved this book and it has everything, there is romance, passion, obsession, mystery, suspense, horror and death. It's very complete. So of course I recommend it if you like this kind of stories.
