Synopsis: The history begins in a circle of friends in an old house, when Douglas reads the writings of the experiences of the youth of a deceased governess. There she tells how she was hired by a single man to take care of his two nephews, who had recently lost their parents. Both live in a country house in Bly, Essex. In the huge manor house the woman is tormented by supernatural visions of two spirits that, according to her, haunt the two children in order to corrupt them.

En la enorme casona la mujer es atormentada por visiones sobrenaturales de dos espíritus que, según ella, acechan a los dos niños para corromperlos.
The book is narrated in first person by the governess herself, a very young and inexperienced woman. We see her complex character as she relates the events and the obsession that takes hold of her from the supernatural visions she is presented with. At all times, she leaves something unsaid and so the mystery is maintained until the end. What is hinted at takes hold of the reader, causing him to create thousands of hypotheses.
El libro está narrado en primera persona por la misma institutriz, mujer muy joven e inexperta. Vemos su complejo carácter a medida que relata los hechos y la obsesión que se apodera de ella a partir de las visiones sobrenaturales que se le presentan. En todo momento, deja algo no dicho y así se mantiene el misterio hasta el final. Lo insinuado se apodera del lector, provocando que se cree miles de hipótesis.
In my opinion, it is a horror book that does not produce much of that feeling in today's readers, however the mystery surrounding the history is gripping in itself. The way it is read tends to be a bit tedious and complicated for some amateur readers, due to the fact that it was written in another time. Nevertheless, it is a classic about a haunted house something different and extraordinary.
Según mi opinión, es un libro de terror que no produce mucho ese sentimiento en los lectores actuales, sin embargo el misterio que rodea la historia es atrapante en sí. El modo de lectura suele ser un poco tedioso y complicado para algunos lectores aficionados, debido a que fue escrita en otro tiempo. No obstante, es un clásico sobre una casa embrujada algo diferente y extraordinario.

They are: Dr. Lionel Barrett, a scientist interested in parapsychology, his wife Edith and two mediums: Florence Tanner, a mental medium, and Benjamin Franklin Fischer, a physical medium. Their task is to spend a week at the Belasco House where they will investigate the paranormal phenomena that occurred there. Subsequently it was investigated twice with disastrous results, only one person came out of there alive and sane: Fischer.

This is another one of those novels about haunted houses that you can't miss. The novel is written in simple language and mixes horror with mystery in an extraordinary way. Its pages are a roller coaster of emotions. The characters are complex and well developed. Each one has a unique personality, which will be revealed as the reading progresses.
Esta es otra de esas novelas sobre casas embrujadas que no te podés perder. La novela está escrita en un lenguaje sencillo y mezcla el terror con el misterio de una manera extraordinaria. Sus páginas son una montaña rusa de emociones. Los personajes son complejos y bien desarrollados. Cada uno tiene una personalidad única, que se irá rebelando a medida que avanza la lectura.
During the investigation, the house begins to influence the four people by exposing their weaknesses and fears. It will play with them like a cat with a mouse, making them doubt everything that happens or they believe, engendering an atmosphere of diverse theories.
