Hello everyone this will be my first post in the Hive Book Club community. The @ocd contest led me here, to be honest, and i am ready to write about my most favorite book. To tell you the truth i don't read many books. Instead, i prefer to watch movies, series, and anime and i have watched a lot.
Also, given the fact that i don't read a lot of books, i can't make a lot of posts as well. Do comics and manga count? or novels that later on became manga? If yes then i got a lot to share!
Now to determine my favorite book i had 3 choices which hopefully i am gonna write the following days as well. Sadly i have already made a post around a month ago about my favorite book so this will be another one as this is my favorite book, i can't lie!
The book is called The Dolphin People by Torsten Krol a guy that nobody knows. There are speculations around his name and why his identity is hidden but honestly who knows what this guy has in mind. Also, note that this post will contain some SPOILERS so make your choice....now!
Plot
The story starts after WWII with Erich and his family fleeing from German. Erich is a 16-year-old boy and has another brother. His father has died fighting in the war and so they move to Venezuela in where they meet with his brother, uncle Klaus.
They are all afraid of what may happen now that the Germans lost the war and thus they try to hide as far as they can. After reaching Venezuela Klaus plans to move further deep in order for them to start their new life. Apparently, he has everything under control.
So they take a plane but due to bad weather, the plane crashed in the middle of the Amazon. Lost in the rainforest they meet a tribe called the Yayomi that helps them and takes them back with them. They give them food and stuff and soon they realize that they consider them as gods.
In fact, they considered them as war gods, that are dolphins in human disguise due to their white skins and that they will eventually help them beat an opposite tribe. Now they are living their new life as "gods" and at the same time, they try to create a plan in order to get out of there.
During the time that they are there, they will realize a lot of new things about themselves and the tribe. They will start to face difficulties both physical and psychological and every day will be a new struggle.
Will they manage to leave the Amazon rainforest or stay in the tribe?
Why This Book is my Favorite
Now it's time for the 1 million dollar answer. To tell you the truth when i started reading it i had not high hopes for the book. I thought it would be another sort of adventure but oh boy it was something else entirely.
After i read it, i realized that the author step by step builds the whole story quite uniquely. Nobody expects what will follow or happen when reading the first pages, nobody. To begin with, the whole story seems realistic to me as we got a family that was under Nazi Germany fleeing in order to survive.
That was something that actually was happening these days. Now the author knows a lot of stuff about the Amazon Tribes. I don't know how, maybe he made thorough research? Some even say that this is actually a true story.
The next thing that made me love this book is the character development. Usually, in books and especially in movies and shows we don't have that. We all want it but it's quite mainstream. This time in this book not only the protagonist but everyone in the family along with the tribe seems to grow.
We get to see how the family interacts with the tribe and their whole situation, what behaviors will arise and how all of this will affect their psychology. Some grow stronger and some grow weaker. At the same time, we see how the tribe interacts with the so-called "gods", their suspicions and behaviors.
What was the best thing though is the "dark aura" that surrounded that book. Not many people will like it i have to warn you, cause as i said you will expect to start a nice adventure with a happy ending but reality will surprise you. While reading it i couldn't believe that a book could be this "gory" and "dark". Other books let you know from the start but no...not this one. So the element of a surprise given what i said above is really amazing in my eyes.

Books depicting world war I and II are always great giving this current generation a window to what was actually happening during those dark years.
This book would surely make a wonderful read. "Dark and gory" is kinda my thing...
