Hoy les traigo un nueva reseña bibliográfica de un autor que me gusta mucho: Steve Berry.
Si bien este autor tuvo cierta dificultad a entrar en el circuito norteamericano de los mejores escritores (de hecho tuvo que enviar sus primeros manuscritos a varias editoriales y sufrir continuos rechazos por parte de éstas) una vez que alcanzó el éxito con La Habitación de Ambar se convirtió en uno de los lectores de thrillers históricos más leídos en los EE. UU siendo traducido a numerosos idiomas.
Me estoy refiriendo a El Tercer Secreto su tercer novela escrita en el año 2005 y publicada como todas las anteriores por Ballantine Books, la editorial que logró darle la confianza literaria necesaria al publicar su primer libro.

Although this author had some difficulty to enter the American circuit of the best writers (in fact he had to send his first manuscripts to several publishers and suffer continuous rejections from them) once he achieved success with The Amber Room he became one of the most widely read historical thrillers in the U.S. being translated into numerous languages.
I am referring to The Third Secret his third novel written in 2005 and published as all the previous ones by Ballantine Books, the publishing house that managed to give him the necessary literary confidence when publishing his first book.

El Archivo del Vaticano es uno de los más completos del mundo. Y también uno de los más secretos. Hasta casi decir inexpugnable. Más inexpugnable que el propio Fort Knox si quisiéramos hacer una broma al estilo americano.
En estos archivos están custodiados secretos que tal vez nunca verán la luz como la verdadera y completa confesión de Galileo Galilei ante la Santa Inquisición (aunque hasta nosotros haya llegado solo su última frase referida a la Tierra "eppure si muove" -"no obstante se mueve"-, el Tratado Secreto firmado entre Napoleón Bonaparte y la Iglesia Católica en Tolentino, el borrador del Tercer Secreto de Fátima.
Sobre uno de estos secretos Steve Berry construye una novela apasionante en la cuál está involucrado el Papa Clemente XV.

Un secreto que, a partir de ese momento, mueve las más altas esferas del poder político y religioso mundial para mantenerlo custodiado, sin darlo a conocer.

La novela en si mismo tiene mucho de verdad histórica y algo di ficción.
Los datos han existido y han quedado registrados. El llamado Tercer Secreto de Fátima está dividido en tres partes: la primera corresponde a la deposición de los niños registrada por sor Lucia (que era uno de ellos) el 31 de agosto de 1941.
Para ese entonces los otros dos niños habían fallecido.
En un borrador sucesivo ese mismo año sor Lucía agrega otros datos.
La última parte fue escrita por el obispo de Leiria el 3 de enero de 1944.
Todas estos datos reconocidos históricamente son llevados al libro con una singular maestría por Steve Berry manteniendo alta la tensión y el desenlace hasta el final.
Hay que tener en cuenta que pocos años antes de la publicación del libro Juan Pablo II había dado a conocer en forma muy enigmática cuál era el Tercer Secreto de Fátima diciendo que no era nada para preocuparse demasiado...
The novel itself has a lot of historical truth and some fiction.
The facts have existed and have been recorded. The so-called Secret of Fatima is divided into three parts: the first corresponds to the deposition of the children recorded by Sister Lucia (who was one of the children) on August 31, 1941. By that time the other two children had died.
In a successive draft that same year, Sister Lucia adds other data.
The last part was written by the Bishop of Leiria on January 3, 1944.
All these historically recognized facts are brought to the book with a singular mastery by Steve Berry keeping the tension and the outcome high until the end.
It should be noted that a few years before the publication of the book, John Paul II had made known in a very enigmatic way what the Third Secret of Fatima was, saying that it was nothing to worry too much about....
A pesar de que su consagración definitiva viene con la serie de Cotton Malone y otras novelas como la Profecía de los Romanov, lo cierto es que Steve Berry luego de su primera novela La Habitación de Ambar ya pasó a estar en el "olimpo" de los escritores más reconocidos del mundo en lo que a therillers históricos se refiere.
Abogado de profesión ha sabido amalgamar su formación profesional con una rigurosa elaboración de los textos y datos históricos donde muy pocas cosas son dejadas al azar.
Y donde, a diferencia de muchos de sus colegas, la mayor parte de los datos históricos a que hace referencia, han existido realmente.
Although his definitive consecration comes with the Cotton Malone series and other novels such as The Romanov Prophecy, the truth is that Steve Berry, after his first novel The Amber Room, is already in the "Olympus" of the most recognized writers in the world as far as historical thrillers are concerned.
A lawyer by profession, he has been able to combine his professional training with a rigorous elaboration of texts and historical data where very few things are left to chance.
And where, unlike many of his colleagues, most of the historical data he refers to actually existed.
