Hello, Hive Book Club friends!
I hope your day is going well. While it's true, I like to hang around here reading reviews and commenting, I don't think I've posted here since last year. I hadn't read, but that's changed.
Today I will tell you about The Love Hypothesis. A book that went viral on Tik Tok that they've been talking about quite a bit and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about.
So, here's my review.

So Olive is stunned when Carlsen agrees to keep his charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. However, after a major scientific conference turns into a disaster and Adam surprises her again with his unwavering support (and unwavering abs), her little experiment comes perilously close to the point of combustion. Olive soon discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis about love is analyzing her own heart under a microscope.
Let's see, I wanted to read this book because I had been hearing about it for quite some time. My favourite booktuber reviewed it and raved about it, calling it the best book she read in the year 2022. And my first thought was, "OK. I have to read it.
The first thing I must say is that the cover is beautiful, and it caught my attention that the plot revolves around the scientific world. I had never read a book like this before. And it's not surprising because the author is a neuroscientist and all her books are about women scientists, being a neuroscientist herself. OK, one shot for every time I said "scientist". By the way, this was her first novel and it was already a best seller. A smash hit.
But let's talk a bit about what the book is about! Without spoilers, of course. We don't like spoilers here.
Olive and Ahn are best friends. Ahn hits it off with Olive's ex-boyfriend, but because it's girl code not to date your best friend's ex-boyfriends, Ahn had already decided not to look at Jeremy anymore, out of respect. But it turns out that Jeremy wasn't that important to Olive, so she doesn't mind these two dating. Ahn, however, being firm, would rather ignore her feelings than hurt her friend.
Olive, stubborn as a mule, wants her friend to be happy, and the first thing that comes to mind to make Ahn decide to give Jeremy a chance is to kiss the first man she sees so that her friend will believe her. The problem? This man turns out to be Adam Carlsen, the strictest and most hated professor in the Graduate program. Where I come from he would be called "the cap tomb" 😅😅
But, after agreeing to be part of this fake relationship, since the deal benefits them both, Adam turns out not to be as grumpy as he appears. What will the future hold for them?
Don't answer me, you know, I know. It's a pretty predictable and clichéd book. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Because despite that, it's very entertaining and written in such a jocular and enjoyable way, it hooks you in.
It's super easy to read and doesn't feel heavy at all. Just by saying that I read it in only two days, I'm sure you get what I mean.
I really loved that the story was set in an academic environment. It gave me a bit of a perspective on what the life of a scientist can be like. I thought it was different, because I repeat, I had never read a story that had to do with scientists. And even more so that it emphasised the inclusion of women in science and how despite the evolution we have had as a society regarding gender equality in all areas, we still see that in certain areas such as science careers there are few women in classrooms, being surrounded by men. This leads to a reflection of mansplaining at times or even abuse of power. But you will understand more about that when you get around to reading the book.
It's a book with good secondary characters like Anh and Malcom, Olive's best friends. I seriously loved the friendship of these three.... Or Holden, Adam's best friend. We all need friends like that.
But let's talk about the main characters: Olive and Adam
I didn't love Olive, honestly. On several occasions she seemed stupid to me, because of the decisions she made. It provoked me to shake her 😅 and I also found her overly dramatic, maybe I'm being insensitive or unempathetic, considering she went through hard times in her life but, girlfriend, it's been 10 years now. I don't think it's normal for you to be talking to a person and suddenly start crying just because they bring it up. I definitely didn't connect with her story.
Adam, on the other hand... 😍😍 A daddy. I loved Adam's personality. Tall, taciturn and mysterious. I like those guys😍😍😅
He's that kind of guy who is reserved and unsociable and at first glance can seem bitter. But with his loved ones he is a sweetheart. Very attentive and funny.
I loved the way he treated Olive and cared about her. He is definitely the ultimate literary boyfriend. The author sure knows how to build good male characters that are loved by the female audience. I totally fell in love with Adam.
In fact, I would have loved to know more about him and his story. I would have loved for the book to have several chapters told from Adam's point of view. I was left with several questions about him that I needed to resolve and I didn't get that with this book.
Ali (the author) subsequently brought out an extra chapter of this book, but this time from Adam's point of view. Specifically, it's chapter 16 from Adam's point of view. And while it's true, I loved that it was narrated by Adam, and I finally got to know more about him and his thoughts.... I think it was a wasted resource using that scene. Because you lose sight of what's really important which is Adam's feelings, not his libido.
But, but, but, I loved getting to know Adam more. He's a sweetheart. Candyfloss and I died of tenderness on several occasions.
In short, it's a light read, perfect for those moments when you want to read something romantic, fun, relaxed, especially when you want to fall in love with a male character. Because Adam Carlsen has it all. He is the ultimate literary boyfriend. I totally fell in love with him.
I must admit that I expected a bit more from this book because I had high expectations. I loved the book but it's not the best I've read in this genre. I still prefer Colleen Hoover. However, yes I will continue to read books by this author because I liked the way she builds male characters. Anyway, this was her first book and I know she already has several published, so who knows if her other books will live up to my expectations?

Espero que su día esté yendo de maravilla. Si bien es cierto, que me gusta estar por aquí leyendo reseñas y comentando, creo que no publicaba aquí desde el año pasado. Y es que no había leído, pero eso cambió.
Hoy les contaré acerca de La Hipótesis del Amor. Un libro que se hizo viral en Tik Tok del cual han estado hablando bastante y yo quería saber el por qué de tanto alboroto.
Así que, aquí tienen mi reseña.

Olive Smith es una doctoranda de tercer año que no cree en las relaciones amorosas duraderas, pero su mejor amiga, Ahn, sí, y por eso Olive se ha metido en un lío monumental. A Ahn le gusta el exnovio de Olive, pero jamás daría el primer paso porque es una buena amiga. A Olive no le va a resultar nada fácil convencerla de que ha pasado página, puesto que los científicos necesitan pruebas. Por eso, como cualquier mujer con un mínimo de amor propio, se deja llevar por el pánico y besa al primer hombre con el que se encuentra para que Ahn la vea.
Ese hombre es nada más y nada menos que Adam Carlsen, un joven profesor tan reputado por la calidad de su trabajo como por su imbecilidad. Así que Olive se queda de piedra cuando Carlsen accede a mantener su farsa en secreto y ser su novio falso. Sin embargo, después de que un importante congreso científico se convierta en un desastre y Adam vuelva a sorprenderla con su apoyo inquebrantable (y sus inquebrantables abdominales), su pequeño experimento se acerca peligrosamente al punto de combustión. Olive no tarda en descubrir que la única cosa más complicada que una hipótesis sobre el amor es analizar su propio corazón bajo el microscopio.
A ver, este libro lo quise leer porque tenía bastante tiempo escuchando de él. Mi booktuber favorita le hizo una reseña y habló maravillas de él, catalogandolo como el mejor libro que leyó en el año 2022. Y lo primero que pensé fue: "OK. Tengo que leerlo".
Lo primero que debo decir es que, la portada es preciosa, y llamó mi atención que la trama se desarrollara en torno al mundo científico. Nunca había leído un libro así. Y no es de sorprenderse porque la autora es neurocientifica y todos sus libros tienen como norte hablar de mujeres científicas, al ser ella neurocientifica. OK, un shot por cada vez que dije "científica". Por cierto, esta fue su primera novela y ya fue best seller. Un exitazo.
¡Pero hablemos un poco de qué va el libro! Sin spoilers, obvio. Aquí no nos gustan los spoilers.
Olive y Ahn son mejores amigas. Ahn congenia con el ex novio de Olive, pero por ser un código de chicas el no salir con los ex novios de tu mejor amiga, Ahn ya había decidido no mirar más a Jeremy, por respeto. Pero resulta que Jeremy no fue tan importante para Olive, así que no le importa que estos dos salgan. Sin embargo, Ahn siendo firme prefiere ignorar sus sentimientos antes que herir a su amiga.
Olive, terca como una mula quiere que su amiga sea feliz, y lo primero que se le ocurre para que Ahn decida darle una oportunidad a Jeremy es besar al primer hombre que ve para que su amiga le crea. ¿El problema? Este hombre resultó ser Adam Carlsen, el profesor más estricto y odiado del programa de Postgrado. En mi pueblo le dirían "el tumba birrete" 😅😅
Pero, luego de aceptar ser parte de esa falsa relación, ya que el trato beneficia a ambos, Adam resulta no ser tan malhumorado como aparenta. ¿Qué les deparará el futuro?
No me respondan, ya lo saben, yo lo sé. Es un libro bastante predecible y cliché. Pero no necesariamente es algo malo. Porque a pesar de ello, es muy entretenido y está escrito de una manera tan jocosa y amena, que te engancha.
Es super fácil de leer y no se siente nada pesado. Con decir que lo leí en solo dos días, estoy segura que entienden lo que quiero decir.
De verdad me encantó que la historia se desarrollará en un ambiente académico. Me dio un poco la perspectiva de lo que puede ser la vida de un científico. Me pareció diferente, porque repito, nunca había leído una historia que tuviese que ver con científicos. Y más aún que hiciera hincapié en la inclusión de la mujer en la ciencia y cómo a pesar de la evolución que hemos tenido como sociedad respecto a la igualdad de género en todas las áreas, aún vemos que en ciertas áreas como en las carreras de ciencia hay pocas mujeres en los salones de clases, siendo rodeadas por hombres. Lo que lleva a reflejar mansplaining en ocasiones o incluso, abuso de poder. Pero de eso ya entenderán mejor cuando se animen a leer el libro.
Es un libro con buenos personajes secundarios como Anh y Malcom, los mejores amigos de Olive. En serio me encantó la amistad de estos tres... O Holden, el mejor amigo de Adam. Todos necesitamos amigos así.
Pero hablemos de los personajes principales: Olive y Adam.
No me encantó Olive, honestamente. En varias ocasiones me pareció una estúpida, por las decisiones que tomaba. Me provocaba zarandearla 😅 y también me pareció demasiado dramática, quizá estoy siendo insensible o poco empática, considerando que ella vivió momentos duros en su vida pero, amiga, ya han pasado 10 años. No creo que sea normal que estés hablando con una persona y te pongas a llorar de repente solo porque te mencionen el tema. Definitivamente no conecté con su historia.
En cambio, Adam... 😍😍 Un papucho. Amé la personalidad de Adam. Alto, taciturno y misterioso. A mí me gustan de esos😍 😅
Es ese tipo de hombres que son reservados y poco sociables y que a simple vista puede parecer amargado. Pero con sus seres queridos es un amor. Muy atento y divertido.
Amé la forma en la que trataba a Olive y se preocupaba por ella. Definitivamente es el novio literario definitivo. La autora sí que sabe construir buenos personajes masculinos que sean amados por el público femenino. Yo quedé totalmente enamorada de Adam.
De hecho, me hubiese encantado saber más de él y su historia. Hubiese amado que el libro tuviese varios capítulos narrados desde el punto de vista de Adam. Quedé con varias interrogantes sobre él que necesitaba resolver y no lo obtuve con este libro.
Ali (la autora) posteriormente sacó un capítulo extra de este libro, pero está vez desde el punto de vista de Adam. Específicamente es el capítulo 16 desde el punto de vista de Adam. Y si bien es cierto, que amé que fuese narrado por Adam, y finalmente pude saber más de él y sus pensamientos... Creo que se desaprovechó el recurso usando esa escena. Porque se pierde de vista lo realmente importante que son los sentimientos de Adam, no su líbido.
Pero, pero, amé conocer más a Adam. Él es un amor. Un algodón de azúcar y morí de ternura en varias ocasiones.
En resumen, es una lectura ligera, perfecta para esos momentos en los que quieres leer algo romántico, divertido, relajado, especialmente cuando te quieres enamorar de un personaje masculino. Porque Adam Carlsen lo tiene todo. Es el novio literario definitivo. Yo quedé totalmente enamorada de él.
Debo admitir que esperé un poco más de este libro porque tenía las expectativas altas. Me encantó el libro pero no es el mejor que he leído de este género. Sigo prefiriendo a Colleen Hoover. Sin embargo, si seguiré leyendo libros de esta autora porque me gustó como construye personajes masculinos. De todas formas, este fue su primer libro y sé que ya tiene varios publicados. ¿Quién sabe si sus otros libros si cumplan todas mis expectativas?

I have no doubt that this kind of novel is pretty popular on tiktok. It's that character that I think stands out and there's just the market for a handsome, mysterious guy charm 🤣 and a girl that seemingly a bit too dramatic. It's like match made in heaven and archetypal.

Lo creas o no, comencé a leer el libro ayer después de patearlo por meses y fue por la misma razón que la tuya, ya estaba más que harta de que todos hablen maravillas de él y yo ni enterada de qué va jajaja, ¿seré influenciable? maybe.
Bueno, todavía no leí mucho, así que no puedo comentar algo concreto al respecto. Pero me alegra que lo hayas disfrutado aunque no haya superado del todo tus expectativas.
