I hope you're doing great, just like me. Today I'm going to tell you about A Court of Roses and Thorns. The first of a 5 book saga. It was recommended to me by a friend I made on Twitter, and I decided to give it a try. If you want to know what my impressions were, keep reading ❤️

I'm not lying when I tell you that fantasy is one of my favourite literary genres. It was my first love alongside romance. Losing myself in worlds of all kinds, with creatures of different races and dimensions, was my favourite pastime when I was at school.
And this book has fantasy to spare. But I'd better tell you a bit about what it's about, without spoilers, of course. We don't like that kind of thing here 😅
PLOT
Feyre is a mortal who lives with her poverty-stricken father and two older sisters, and being the only one with the guts to fight for their lives, she goes out into the forest every day to hunt animals for food.
One day, she kills a gigantic wolf. Not to eat it, but out of spite. She suspected that it really was an immortal and just in case, she made sure it was not left alive.
And you may ask yourself, mortal and immortal? And yes, the story is set in a world divided by humans and immortal creatures living in a northern territory called Prythian. Enemies for millennia. A place full of creatures of different races, with monstrous traits and others more similar to humans like the High Fae.
Prythian is divided into 7 Courts: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Day, Dawn and Night. Each ruled by a high lord.
To Feyre's surprise and terror, a strange and terrifying creature (Tamlin) came to her home one night to claim the death of her friend, the wolf who, in the end, turned out to be a true immortal turned Wolf.
The rule was this: a life for a life.
And he offered him two options. His death or to go to live in Prythian with no hope of ever coming back.
Obviously you can guess by now which option he chose, albeit with much trepidation, of course.
Now Feyre had to get used to her new life, in the Spring Court, quite different from what she had expected.
As time passed, a threat would emerge that could wreak havoc on both mortal and immortal worlds. It is up to Feyre to make an important decision that will affect many: will she stand idly by, hiding while someone else saves her, or will she summon the courage to become everyone's solution?
MY OPINION
The truth is that this book turned out to be very good. I liked the story, and the author's way of narrating, which is quite descriptive. So descriptive that you can imagine yourself in the place, feel the textures, the weather and distinguish the smells, but all this without getting bored, because I know of books that describe so much that it gets tiring and boring.
I liked the story so much that I couldn't stop reading from the moment I started. I'm not lying when I say that I read this book of almost 500 pages in about 3 days. And no, I almost didn't sleep from obsession. I felt like that 14 year old girl who spent every night reading.
I loved the way he introduced us to the territories. He even illustrated a map of Prythian and that way I knew where the characters were and how far away they were from other courts.
Regarding the characters, I loved Feyre's personality. A girl who has suffered much more than the rest, with many shortcomings in her life, both emotional and economic, but that was not a limitation to be a warrior and fight for her life and the lives of her loved ones. A girl who does not allow herself to be subdued by anyone. Too intelligent, it should be noted. I liked to see her evolution and how she reacted and acted to every difficulty.
I also really liked Lucien, who was quite challenging at the beginning, with a rather acidic, but funny humour. Quite a loyal character. He became one of my favourites in this book.
Tamlin turned out to be a gentleman, with a very good heart, and a born protector. Though by the end of the book I began to doubt him and the extent of his courage. I lost a little respect for him.
Finally, Rhysand. Someone hated by everyone, with rather unpleasant actions, but who in the end was the one who helped Feyre the most when he needed it the most, despite not being worthy of admiration. He is quite a complex character, with many nuances that I would like to know more about.
A book with a lot of fantasy, a little bit of romance, and the struggle of a group of people to reclaim their lives and move on despite the shadow of some pretty traumatic events that left their mark.
All in all, it's a story that is very well told. Of course, there are some things left unresolved, but I think my answers will be given in the next book.
I would give it a 9/10.

No les miento, cuando les digo que la fantasía es uno de mis géneros literarios favoritos. Fue mi primer amor junto al romance. Perderme en mundos de todo tipo, con criaturas de diferentes razas y dimensiones, era mi pasatiempo favorito cuando estaba en el colegio.
Y este libro tiene fantasía de sobra. Pero mejor les cuento un poco sobre qué va, sin spoilers, por supuesto. Aquí no nos gustan esas cosas 😅
TRAMA
Feyre es una mortal que vive con su padre y sus dos hermanas mayores, sumidos en la pobreza y siendo la única con las agallas para luchar por sus vidas, sale todos los días al bosque a cazar animales para comer.
Un día, mata a un lobo gigantesco. No para comerlo, sino por rencor. Ella sospechaba que realmente era un inmortal y por si acaso, se aseguró de que no quedara vivo.
Y te preguntaras, ¿mortales e inmortales? Y sí. La historia se forma en un mundo divido por humanos y criaturas inmortales que viven en un territorio ubicado al norte del muro que los separa, llamado Prythian. Enemigos desde hace milenios. Un lugar lleno de criaturas de distintas razas, con rasgos monstruosos y otros más similares a los humanos como los Altos Fae.
Prythian está divido por 7 Cortes: Primavera, Verano, Otoño, Invierno, Dia, Amanecer y Noche. Cada uno gobernado por un Alto Lord.
Por sorpresa y terror de Feyre, una extraña y terrorífica criatura (Tamlin) fue a buscarla una noche a su casa para reclamar la muerte de su amigo, el lobo quien al final, resultó siendo un verdadero inmortal convertido en Lobo.
La regla era la siguiente: una vida por otra vida.
Y le ofreció dos opciones. Su muerte o irse a vivir a Prythian sin esperanzas de volver nunca más.
Obviamente ya debes suponer que opción eligió, aunque con mucho temor, claro está.
Ahora Feyre tenía que acostumbrarse a su nueva vida, en la Corte Primavera, bastante diferente a lo que esperó.
Con el paso del tiempo surgiría una amenaza que podría causar estragos en ambos mundos, mortales e inmortales. Queda en Feyre tomar una decisión importante que afectaría a muchos. ¿Se quedará de brazos cruzados, escondida mientras alguien más la salva o se armará de valor para convertirse en la solución de todos?
MI OPINIÓN
La verdad es que este libro resultó ser muy bueno. Me gustó la historia, y la forma de narrar de la autora que es bastante descriptiva. Tan descriptiva que te puedes imaginar en el lugar, sentir las texturas, el clima y distinguir los olores, pero todo esto sin aburrirte, porque sé de libros que describen tanto que la cosa se pone agotadora y aburrida.
La historia me gustó tanto que no pude parar de leer desde que empecé. No miento cuando digo que me leí este libro de casi 500 páginas en 3 días aproximadamente. Y no, casi no dormí de la obsesión. Me sentí como aquella niña de 14 años que pasaba todas las noches leyendo.
Me encantó como nos presentaba los territorios. Incluso nos ilustró un mapa de Prythian y de esa manera yo sabía en qué ubicación estaban los personajes y qué tan lejos estaban y de otras cortes.
Con respecto a los personajes, me encantó la personalidad de Feyre. Una chica que ha sufrido mucho más que el resto, con muchas carencias en su vida, tanto emocionales como económicas, pero eso no fue limitación para ser una guerrera y luchar por su vida y la de sus seres queridos. Una chica que no se deja someter por nadie. Demasiado inteligente, cabe destacar. Me gustó ver su evolución y como reaccionaba y actuaba ante cada dificultad.
También me gustó mucho Lucien, que al principio era bastante retador, con un humor bastante ácido, pero divertido. Un personaje bastante leal. Se convirtió en uno de los favoritos de este libro.
Tamlin resultó ser un caballero, con muy buen corazón, y un protector nato. Aunque al final del libro empecé a dudar de él y de la magnitud de su coraje. Le perdí un poco de respeto.
Finalmente, Rhysand. Alguien odiado por todos, con acciones bastante desagradables, pero que al final fue quien ayudó más Feyre cuando más lo necesitó, a pesar de no ser digno de admiración. Es un personaje bastante complejo, con muchas matices del que me gustaría saber más.
Un libro con mucha fantasía, un poquito de romance, y la lucha de un grupo de personas para recuperar su vida y seguir adelante a pesar de la sombra de eventos bastante traumaticos que dejaron huella.
En resumen, es una historia que está muy bien plasmada. Por supuesto, quedan cosas pendientes, pero creo que mis respuestas serán dadas en el próximo libro.
Yo le daría un 9/10.

Hermanaaaa, esta saga es tremenda. Me alegra que la estés leyendo, espero que ya hayas comenzado con el segundo que es mi fav de los 3 primeros y es 🔥. La verdad que esta autora se luce con sus libros de fantasía, son adictivos como habrás podido comprobar. Lucien es mi protegido, y Feyre es una gran protagonista femenina. Aaah y Rhys bebé 😍.

Oh, you just dove into a whole new world. That book was the start of me reading 13 books by Sarah J Maas in a row. I devoured the ACOTAR series (just wait until you get to know Rhysand more in book 2), and then jumped into Throne of Glass, which I liked at least as much.
If you enjoy fantasy romance and the themes in ACOTAR, you might enjoy the fantasy romance interactive fiction game I just finished writing. It was actually released today! I drew some inspiration from the ACOTAR novels. Though the game is quite different, and generally more light-hearted, some of the atmosphere and characters give a similar feel. I've just done up a post about it, actually. 😊

Cuando hablabas de la niña de 14 años que leía en las noches, recordé dos episodios de mí adolescencia. Uno fue leyendo la guerra del fin del mundo de Vargas Llosa, un libro con el que tuve una relación amor-odio porque era muy pesado y cada tanto lo dejaba "para no leerlo nunca más" pero igual lo terminé y el otro fue con Mí dulce Audrina, un libro que me leí en una sola noche con más de 300 páginas. Me acostaba pero no podía dormir y me volvía a levantar hasta que lo terminé cuando salía el sol

Iba a decir que no me gusta KA fantasía pero recordé que cuando dije eso en una conversación con mis hermanas me cayeron encima pues soy fan de Games of Throne y una que otra serie por ahí que se inclina a ese mundo fantástico.

Se me hace una historia bastante interesante, y esa emoción con la que cuentas todo me hace recordar a mí misma hace mucho cuando tenía tiempo para dedicarme a leer.

Great review, and it's always impressive when a post is bilingual.
I'm probably one of the few straight males who has ever actually read and reviewed this same book 😅, so it was good to read someone else's thoughts on it. I have to confess that the rest of the series is kind of a long, disappointing downhill slog into cut-and-pasted pulp fiction (by the time you finish Wings and Ruin so many characters have died and been raised from the dead only a few pages later that the death of a character is practically meaningless), and the dialogue goes from believable to "you really expect me to believe 500-year-old Faerie Lords talk like frat boys?"
But book one was great, and while the rest of the series didn't really live up to it, it's still worth reading it just to find out how it ends (well, maybe with the exception of Silver Flames because Nesta and Cassian are both one-dimensional characters).

I must admit I already read Wings and Ruin. And maybe I'm too naive or get carried away with fiction, but I really got into the story and didn't think anything of what you comment. I honestly loved both books, especially the second one. I liked the second one better than the first one.
