Uno de los autores que más me gustan y más he leído del género literario conocido en los últimos años como "legal thriller" es John Grisham. Por muchos considerado como el verdadero "fundador" de este género. Tal vez porque fue uno d elos primeros es sacarle a la novela policial ese carécter de "noir" o "novela negra" norteamericana que caracterizó los thrillers literarios por varias décadas y que nació en contemporánea con la gran depresión americana hacia el final de la década de 1920.
Autores como Raymond Chanler con su Philip Marlowe inmortalizado en el cine por Humphrey Bogart, Carroll John Daly, con su detective Race Williams y Dashiell Hammett con Sam Spade (considerados los tres como los verdaderos fundadores del verdadero noir) le dieron lustre a este tipo de novela pero se imponía un nuevo tipo más acorde con los tiempos modernos.

Hoy les voy a hacer una reseña del primer libro de Grisham escrito en el año 1989 llamado en inglés A Time to Kill y traducido al español como Tiempo de Matar.
Lo curioso de este verdadero creador de best sellers internacionales es que esta primera novela, después de ser rechazada por un gran número de editoriales, fue aceptada por la Wynwood Press de Nueva York quien aceptó solo imprimir 5.000 ejemplares.
Apenas siete años más tarde la trama del libro fue llevada al cine en una película dirigida por Joel Schumacher e interpretada por En 1996, la novela fue adaptada a una película del mismo nombre, protagonizada por Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson y Kevin Spacey marcando el inicio del suceso editorial de Grisham.

A partir de ese momento Grisham comienza a trabajar durante tres años sobre un borrador de un libro considerando la hipótesis de que los padres asesinaran al violador por venganza. Que sucedería y cómo reaccionaría el jurado y la misma población.
Algunos de sus personajes (Jake Brigance, Harry Rex Vonner y Lucien Wilbanks) reaperecen en libros posteriores de Grisham.

Que lleva finalmente a cabo cuando James Louis "Pete" Willard y Billy Ray Cobb los violadores que han pasado el tiempo del juicio jactándose con total impunidad de su barbarie, son escoltados de vuelta a la cárcel tras su audiencia de fianza.

Es una caracteristica de muchos autores en sus primeros libros. Teniendo en cuenta que Grisham fue juez y es abogado en natural esa tendencia a sobredosificar los aspectos legales.
