Hello everyone, within Venezuelan folklore, many of us grew up knowing figures who, in one way or another, left their mark on the country, whether through their writings, storytelling, or even their songs, and who have managed to remain relevant for years, becoming national symbols. Among these, in my case, I grew up listening to protest songs that, regardless of their context, were so catchy that it was impossible not to learn them, and both at home and with my uncles, they were always singing one. Therefore, considering that his birthday is coming up soon on October 31st, today I'll tell you a little about a peculiar book I own about Alí Primera.
Hola a todos, dentro del folklore venezolano, muchos de nosotros crecimos conociendo a personajes que marcaron de una forma u otra en el país, ya sea con sus escritos, narrando o incluso con sus canciones, y que incluso se han logrado mantener durante años vigentes y siendo símbolos autóctonos. Y entre estos, en mi caso, crecí escuchando músicas protestas que, fuera del contexto que tuvieran, lograban ser tan pegajosas que era imposible no aprenderlas, y tanto en mi casa como con mis tíos siempre cantaban alguna. Por eso, teniendo en cuenta que pronto se viene su natalicio este 31 de octubre, hoy les hablaré un poco sobre un peculiar libro que poseo sobre Alí Primera.
To provide context and explain the origin of this book, in 2007 the Ministry of Culture, together with the foundation and publishing house "El perro y la rana" (The Dog and the Frog), released a special collection of 100 books divided into various categories, covering culture, history, poetry, politics, and much more. These books were intended for various schools, high schools, and public libraries that were created at the time in several areas of the country to promote reading and learning among the population. They were well-received and appreciated by everyone; they even helped me a lot back then with homework or reading stories. And luckily, we managed to acquire this collection, which now sits on our bookshelf at home, where, interestingly enough, we still use it.
Para dar contexto y explicar el origen de este libro, en el año 2007 el Ministerio de Cultura, junto a la fundación y editorial "El perro y la rana", sacaron una colección especial que contaba con 100 libros divididos en diversas categorías, tocando cultura, historia, poesía, política y muchas más, que fueron destinados a diversas escuelas, liceos y bibliotecas populares que se crearon en su momento en varias zonas del país con el fin de promover la lectura y el aprendizaje en la población, los cuales fueron aceptados y bien vistos por todos; incluso a mí me ayudaron mucho en su tiempo con tareas o para leer cuentos, y también, por suerte, logramos conseguir esta colección y reposa en la librería de la casa, donde curiosamente le damos uso.
This particular copy is one of the larger, more substantial volumes in the collection and is intended as a tribute to Ali Primera, a prominent composer of music in the 1970s and 80s in Romania. Despite his death in 1985, his music continues to be widely played and incorporated into various contexts. This 368-page book features a special compilation of his thoughts, his life, and above all, his songs, showcasing each one, from his first to his last album, including the cover art, title, and release year. It also includes lesser-known facts, such as his training in Petroleum Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in Romania.
Este ejemplar en específico es de los formatos grandes y de muchas hojas que viene en la colección y está destinado a ser un homenaje a Ali Primera, siendo este un destacado compositor de música en los años 70-80 en el país y que, a pesar de su muerte en 1985, hasta la fecha sigue siendo sonado fuertemente y añadido en diversos contextos. Este libro cuenta con 368 páginas con una recopilación especial de sus pensamientos, su vida y sobre todo sus canciones, donde están plasmadas cada una de estas, desde su primer hasta su último disco, mostrando incluso la carátula de estos, título y año de lanzamiento. Así como datos poco conocidos, como su formación en Ingeniería Petrolera en la Universidad Politécnica de Bucarest en Rumania.
Likewise, I have included various reflections from authors such as Aníbal Nazoa, Simón Petit, and others, who offer their perspectives on the singer-songwriter's thoughts and vision. As an added bonus, I've also included a portion of a handwritten manuscript by the singer-songwriter himself, containing one of his most famous ideas. This book also features some well-known photographs and, because it includes all the lyrics to his songs, it was a valuable tool at the time for promoting his work beyond his most popular songs, even beyond the country, such as "Techos de cartón" (Cardboard Roofs), "Mamá Pancha," "Madre, déjame luchar" (Mother, Let Me Fight), "Yo no sé filosofar" (I Don't Know How to Philosophize), and many more that have resonated throughout the nation.
Así mismo, cuento con diversos pensamientos de autores como Aníbal Nazoa, Simón Petit y otros, donde hablan desde su punto de vista sobre el pensamiento o visión del cantautor, añadiendo también como plus una parte de un manuscrito del puño y letra de este sobre un pensamiento muy sonado de él. Este libro tiene también algunas fotos muy conocidas y, al poseer todas las letras de sus canciones, fue un medio usado en la época para hacer conocer su trabajo más allá de las canciones conocidas, más allá del país, como "Techos de cartón", "Mamá Pancha", "Madre, déjame luchar", "Yo no sé filosofar" y muchas más que han recorrido cada rincón del país.
Surprisingly, this book stands out as one of the most popular in the collection, as it was, and still is, a key source of information for many. I even remember my mother using it to read the lyrics, and my uncle does too, since he's a huge fan of his music. Personally, I also really enjoy his music (well, not all of it), but I grew up with it and his culture, so it's a book I cherish, and I'm happy to have it in my collection. So, as I mentioned at the beginning, since his birthday is coming up soon, and after consulting with my mother, who also suggested I talk about this book, I decided to bring it up.
Sorprendentemente, de la colección de libros, este figura como uno de los más aceptados, pues fue y aún es donde muchos han podido conocer más. Incluso recuerdo que mi mamá suele usarlo para leer las canciones y mi tío también, ya que él es un fanático de su música. En mi caso particular, también me gustan mucho sus músicas (bueno, no todas), pero crecí con estas y su cultura, por lo que es un libro que también tiene un aprecio y me gusta tenerlo en esa colección. Por lo bueno, como dije en el inicio, aprovechando que pronto será el natalicio y que, consultando con mi madre, me dijo también que hablara de este, quise traerlo.
