Ahora si, llego al ultimo libro de mi colección de John Katzenbach y lo hago con una paradoja porque es un best seller pero es de los títulos que menos me han gustado de todos los que tengo y lógicamente he leído, es algo raro pero como se dice por ahí "entre gustos y colores no han escrito los autores".
Now yes, I reach the last book of my collection of John Katzenbach and I do it with a paradox because it is a best seller but it is one of the titles that I have liked the least of all those I have and logically I have read, it is something strange but as they say "between tastes and colors have not written the authors".
Al calor del verano recuerdo fue el segundo libro, si mi memoria no falla, en leer de Katzenbach y al principio me pareció muy bueno para serles honestos pero eso sucedió por no tener las referencias necesarias para comparar un libro con otro. Referencias que poseo hoy en día y que me permiten afirmar bajo mis gustos que en efecto es el mas flojo; para nada es un mal libro pero a estas alturas es el que menos me impactó. Habiendo dicho esto, les hablo un poco acerca de él.
In the heat of summer I remember it was the second book, if my memory does not fail, to read Katzenbach and at first I thought it was very good to be honest but that happened because I did not have the necessary references to compare one book with another. References that I have today and that allow me to affirm under my tastes that it is indeed the weakest; it is not a bad book at all but at this point it is the one that impacted me the least. Having said that, I'll tell you a little about it.

Esta historia y al igual que muchas de las de este autor está ambientada en Miami, Florida donde un asesino serial tiene en pánico a dicha ciudad. Estamos por la década de los 70 cuando el cuerpo sin vida de una joven es descubierto en un campo de golf, sin ningún tipo de pistas, testigos ni sospechosos la policía comienza su trabajo de investigación de rutina.
This story, like many of this author's, is set in Miami, Florida, where a serial killer has the city in a panic. We are in the 70's when the lifeless body of a young woman is discovered on a golf course, without any clues, witnesses or suspects the police begin their routine investigation work.
Es entonces cuando este asesino decide contactar a un periodista de sucesos justo después de haber leído un reportaje de dicho caso para iniciar así una relación de lo más extraña y particular. Hablamos de una relación en donde Malcom Anderson, el periodista en cuestión, intenta ganarse la confianza del criminal con la finalidad de lograr descubrir quien se esconde detrás de tales asesinatos.
It is then when this murderer decides to contact a crime reporter just after having read a report on the case to start a strange and particular relationship. We are talking about a relationship in which Malcom Anderson, the journalist in question, tries to gain the trust of the criminal in order to discover who is behind the murders.

A medida que va avanzando el tiempo este asesino vuelve a cometer más de estos crímenes dejando cadáveres sin ningún tipo de piedad ni remordimiento donde la única fuente de evidencias terminan siendo las llamadas que constantemente se hacen entre Malcom y el desconocido criminal.
As time goes by, this murderer commits more of these crimes leaving corpses without any mercy or remorse where the only source of evidence ends up being the calls that are constantly made between Malcolm and the unknown criminal.

Como vieron en el resumen es un titulo bastante corto donde lo común y lo que estamos acostumbrados ya a ver en los libros de Katzenbach es el aspecto psicológico en el que nos sumerge este autor. Un trama que tiene una característica principal y es que se enfoca mucho en la relación atípica entre periodista/asesino que al final termina siendo como un juego de ver quien logra salirse con la suya de primero.
As you saw in the summary it is a fairly short title where the common and what we are used to see in Katzenbach's books is the psychological aspect in which this author immerses us. A plot that has a main feature and is that it focuses a lot on the atypical relationship between journalist / assassin that in the end ends up being like a game to see who gets away with it first.
Otra cosa a tomar en cuenta es la visión periodística ante casos de este estilo donde muchas veces no se busca llegar a la verdad sino más bien alimentar el morbo de la gente manteniendo el interés sobre este asesino a toda costa sin importar consecuencias ni el como lograrlo.
Another thing to take into account is the journalistic vision in cases of this kind where many times they do not seek to get to the truth but rather to feed the morbid curiosity of the people by maintaining the interest in this murderer at all costs regardless of the consequences or how to achieve it.
Hay que entender que este libro si no me equivoco fue el primero que escribió John Katzenbach por lo que puede que no sea tan llamativo e interesante como otros pero que aún así no deja de ser una historia entretenida y fácil de leer. Personajes bien elaborados con buenos patrones psicológicos y una historia que en ocasiones flojea un poco pero que al final termina siendo decente.
You have to understand that this book if I'm not mistaken was the first one written by John Katzenbach so it may not be as striking and interesting as others but it is still an entertaining and easy to read story. Well crafted characters with good psychological patterns and a story that sometimes flounders a bit but ends up being decent in the end.
Una calificación que le pondría es un 3/5. Una historia que toca aspectos de heridas de guerra tanto físicas como mentales siendo maximizadas por un asesino serial cuyo objetico es mantener horrorizada a toda una ciudad.
A rating I would give it a 3/5. A story that touches on aspects of war wounds both physical and mental being maximized by a serial killer whose goal is to keep an entire city horrified.

Katzenbach es un autor que me intriga bastante. Solo he leído El Psiconalista y su secuela Jaque al psicoanalista. Aunque hace rato quería volver a leerlo, quizá con La Historia del Loco, me llamó la atención esté libro gracias a tu reseña. Quizá le dé una oportunidad.

Es bueno pero no el mejor del Katzenbach. En mi blog hay otros libros de él que son mejores.
