Romance, Poetry, and Fantasy: Intriguing Books by Friends of Mine

Wow! I've got a lot going on in my writing world, right now. I'm getting ready to publish Dragons in the Weaving, the sequel to Falling Through the Weaving (written under my fantasy pen name, Leia Talon), and I am SO EXCITED to share it with you!

I'll do a post about my upcoming release soon. I'm still smoothing out the finishing touches, and doing fun things like giving my author website a complete makeover. (I'm pretty darn happy with how it's turned out.)

My latest blog post on my author website highlights four books by writing friends of mine in different corners of the globe. I thought I'd share it here on Hive, for the book lovers. Maybe you'll find something here that piques your interest. 😊

Romance, Poetry, and Fantasy: Intriguing (and Sometimes Sexy) Books

One of the things I love about being a writer is discovering other writers and their amazing stories!

In this post, I’ve collected a handful of books written by friends of mine. Some poetry, romance, and fantasy/sci-fi. I hope you find them as intriguing as I do.

Janet Oppedisano

Janet hails from Canada’s East Coast and has lived in five provinces, from the Maritimes to the Prairies. Growing up with a Mountie for a father and marrying a Navy diver, it’s no surprise she writes romance with a hint of danger and mystery in it.

The Caine and Ferraro Series

The Caine and Ferraro series is romantic suspense, following the story of Samantha Caine and Dr. Antonio Ferraro. Set primarily in a small town outside Lansing, Michigan with a thriving Italian community, Sam and Antonio’s adventures also take them to Naples and Rome.

She’s an insurance adjuster who was formerly an FBI Art Crimes recruit. Headstrong, snarky, and unable to relax, her desire to chase down crimes involving cultural heritage is still strong, despite her change in careers.

He’s an art conservator who grew up in Rome and moved to Michigan after obtaining his PhD, to work at his family’s art conservation and restoration business. He’s charming and flirtatious, turning everything into a joke.

Book 1, Burning Caine, follows the start of their relationship. It’s centered around the case of a million-dollar painting, burned in a fatal house fire.

You can find Burning Caine on Amazon.

Strange Visits

Reeling from a recent, messy divorce, Cassie yearns to start over but is unsure of her path forward. Soon after, Cassie becomes swept up in an interstellar romantic adventure that pushes the boundaries of her imagination to their limits. As she gets to know the unusual male humanoid who contacted her, Cassie is forced to reckon with the depths of her emotion-and make a tough choice about her future in the world she knows.
Content Notes: past alcoholism, past divorce, brief memory loss.

Rainbow's Red Book of Poetry

Life is a complex thing. As social beings, we live side by side, sometimes in not so harmonious circumstances. This book celebrates love and tackling the challenges we face as humans. Control is not always ours.

Keep learning.
Keep growing.
Be yourself.
Do your best.

Life is complicated, yet very simple.

“Do yourself a favour: buy this, curl up in your favourite chair and read it, knowing you will come away refreshed.”

“These poems are layered and more formal — with an air of William Blake or even Christina Rosetti — but without pretension or anachronism. They still have the Lawson touch.”

“Lily Lawson has this way of making me weep.
And dance.
And understand myself a little better.
And understand others, perhaps, a little better too.”

You can find Rainbow's Red Book of Poetry on Amazon.

Halftime
There’s no halftime in hockey, but maybe there’s one in love…

Drunk dialing your girlfriend to tell her that you didn’t really cheat is a bad idea–a lesson Seb Hunter learned the hard way. It was no surprise when she cut him completely out of her life. Now he’s finally moved on, and he’s looking forward to sophomore year at Moo U. Until his ex arrives on campus.

For goalie Faith Devereaux, cheating is a hard pass. She grew up knowing all too well how destructive infidelity can be. She’s gotten over Seb and picked the college of her dreams. The fact that he’s a student there will not be a problem. Hockey is her priority. Not guys, not dating, definitely not exes.

But when an exhibition game forces them into close proximity, it isn’t long before their old attraction flares. Regaining trust is hard, though, when the heart plays a good defensive game.

But when the goal is love, one more shot might be all they need.

Set in Sarina Bowen’s world of THE TRUE NORTH.

You can find Halftime on Amazon.

@katrina-ariel,

It's been some time since I have said hello!! That's what being in 100 Discord Servers, and deciding to have a Community does to a fellow lol...

I'll admit; though I was raised by women, I was never into the romance novels. But that doesn't mean I'm not a compassionate guy! The Fantasy/Fiction and Sci-Fi, on the other hand... yes please! Also... I have to agree... the cover of your new book is quite awesomesauce'ness!

You continue to spread positive energy and cool content, my friend. Congratulations on your newest novel!

Aw, what a kind and thoughtful comment! Thank you! Fantasy is my go-to, as well, I just like mine with a love story (even if the romance isn't the focus). It's fun going on adventures in my imagination. Books are great for that!

Thanks so much for celebrating my upcoming book with me! 💖
