Quinn Alexander is running away after committing a serious crime. She gets stuck in an unexpected snowstorm and is forced to take shelter for the night at a broken-down, neglected motel called the Baxter Motel.
The owner, Nick, seems nice, but the motel feels super creepy. There's also a mysterious woman always watching from the window across the way, and Quinn isn't sure if she's safe.
She needs to survive the night and get out of there before things get worse.

My Thoughts
The story started with a bang, and I was rooting for the main character so much despite the crime she'd committed. I guess I could empathize with her. The beginning was a ride, and I was in for all of it.
Then the story started to... I don't know, fizzle? There were multiple POVs, and all of a sudden, certain things didn't match nor make sense. You know when you're reading a mystery book and you're in deep and there's suddenly a revelation that lights a bulb in your mind and you go "aha!" I experienced none while reading this book. Maybe I should reread.
The twist with the sister lacked any element of surprise, considering how she was so concerned at beginning. I think the author should have been vague about the sister or simply not given us her POV until the end in order to for that element of surprise to work.
But she didn't do that, and the way she later portrayed the sister was totally disconnecting. I mean, you can't fool us like this. So no, my jaw wasn't on the floor, and apart from the main character, I didn't care about anyone else. Plus I felt the storyline between the sisters was kinda cliche.
Another thing's that I was trying to see what Nick and his wife's storyline had to do with Quinn's survival. It wasn't making sense, but at the same time when I think about the bigger picture, it does make sense, in the sense that what happened to Quinn was the catalyst for the events that took place between the couple the moment Quinn arrived at the motel.
Interestingly, I finished this in a sitting. I don't even know how I did it, but I realized I was reading and unable to put this book down. Something about her easy writing engaged me enough, I guess.
Overall, it's an okay read.
Thanks for reading!
