Several months ago I made a post talking about the first book of this saga written by Dan Brown. Angels and Demons as you can see if you read that first post, it was the book that totally captivated me at first, reading all the following ones (or almost, I'm missing the last one). The Da Vinci Code, however, is undoubtedly the most recognized of all and the second on the list, so today I will begin my series of posts related to these wonderful books.
Synopsis
Published in 2003 with approximately 500 pages, The Da Vinci Code is a book that tells part of the story of Robert Langdon, a renowned professor of symbology who is involved in the investigations corresponding to the murder of Jacques Saunière, which occurred in the Louvre Museum in Paris. Langdon is contacted to decipher the coded message found at the scene and together with agent Sophie Neveu they will try to find the answer to many questions...
If you have read anything by the author or if you have seen the films based on this book series, you will know that a dominant characteristic of his work is linking art with mystery. I think one of the most impressive things is his extensive knowledge of art history that allows him to use certain aspects of this topic as elements of his plot, making said data fit perfectly into the story.
Without a doubt the ones he used in this particular book were incredibly controversial. Talking about how in Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" Mary Magdalene sits next to Jesus of Nazareth was already daring, but then adding that she was a disciple as much as Peter, John or Judas, that she was a leader and as if that was not enough, she was also the sentimental partner of Jesus with whom together had children... Dan Brown dared to do that and more. He involved art with religious themes such as apocryphal biblical texts, esotericism and conspiracy theories to make a mystery full of a "mystical" aura, so to speak. The text is super rich in details, so much so that it was quite simple if, with a little naivety, the reader saw everything and completely believed what the book tells. But I must say that of course, none of what is narrated is completely proven.
The text can easily be offensive to fervently religious people, especially those of the Catholic faith. It goes against many ideas pre-established by that doctrine and even against one of its oldest organizations, the Opus Dei, a group of which there is certainly a fairly negative perception. Although it is a very entertaining and interesting book, if you are not an open-minded person who understands that many things can be just fiction, then you should not read it. But as I understand it, it is like a fiction book, with hints of suspense and mystery very well linked that generates intrigue that also perhaps contains other points of view regarding who Jesus Christ could be, but that does not make it offensive. Rather it is a much more human point of view in my opinion.
Although certainly the ideas presented by Brown in this book have been strongly criticized for supposed errors regarding historical and cultural facts, I honestly do not consider those errors as relevant. It is a fiction book, the story narrated of course has not happened in reality, so I do not see it necessary that the author has had to describe those aspects perfectly. Having a debate about it is beside the point for me.
This book should be taken as the suspense novel that it is and should always be kept in mind that it is simply entertainment that exposes ideas that, like it or are not, are very interesting because they are different.
The most fun thing about this book (and all the books in the saga) are the various puzzles that must be solved to get the clues. At the time I read this book as a teenager, I didn't know many things, so I devoured the pages trying to read quickly to find an explanation.
Thanks to these books, my taste for this type of thriller stories began, they are very entertaining and make you think. Of course, the religious theme has always interested me, so seeing this very different perspective also made me curious to read, to say the least.
In general, it is a book that I fully recommend taking into account the aspects that I already highlighted before. It is a story that you can love, being able to make you read the book in just a couple of days because you are so hooked. So if you have a chance, you should read it.

Hace ya varios meses hice un post hablando de el primer libro de ésta saga escrita por Dan Brown. Ángeles y Demonios como podrás apreciar si lees ese primer post, fue el libro que me cautivó totalmente en un principio, leyendo todos los siguientes (o casi, me falta el último). El Código Da Vinci, sin embargo, es sin duda el más reconocido de todos y el segundo de la lista, por lo que hoy daré inicio a mi serie de posts relacionados a estos maravillosos libros.

Publicado en el año 2003 con aproximadamente 500 páginas, El Código Da Vinci es un libro que narra parte de la historia de Robert Langdon, un reconocido profesor de simbología que se ve involucrado en las investigaciones correspondientes al asesinato de Jacques Saunière, ocurrido en el Museo del Louvre en París. Langdon es contactado para que logre descifrar el mensaje codificado que se encuentra en la escena y junto a la agente Sophie Neveu intentarán dar con la respuesta a muchas preguntas...
Si has leído algo del autor o si has visto las películas basadas en esta saga de libros sabrás que una característica dominante de este autor es enlazar el arte con el misterio. Creo que una de las cosas más impresionantes es su amplio conocimiento sobre la historia del arte que le permite utilizar ciertos aspectos sobre este tema como elementos de su trama, haciendo que dichos datos encajen perfectamente en la historia.
Sin duda los que utilizó en este libro en particular fueron increíblemente llamativos. Hablar de que en «La Última Cena» de Da Vinci al lado de Jesús de Nazaret se sienta María Magdalena ya de por sí era atrevido, pero luego agregar que ella era una discípulo tanto como Pedro, Juan o Judas, que era una líder y por si fuera poco, que también era la compañera sentimental de Jesús con quien tuvo descendencia... Dan Brown se atrevió a eso y más. Involucró el arte con temas religiosos como textos bíblicos apócrifos, esoterismo y teorías conspirativas para hacer así un misterio lleno de un aura «mística», por llamarla de alguna manera. El texto es súper rico en detalles, tanto que resultaba bastante sencillo si contando con un poco de ingenuidad el lector viera todo y se creyera completamente lo que el libro narra. Pero debo decir que por supuesto, nada de lo que se narra está totalmente comprobado.
El texto puede resultar fácilmente ofensivo para las personas fervientemente religiosas, en especial para los de fe católica. Va en contra de muchas ideas pre establecidas por esa doctrina e incluso, contra una de sus organizaciones más antiguas, el Opus Dei, grupo del cual ciertamente se plantea una percepción bastante negativa. Si bien resulta un libro muy entretenido e interesante, si no eres una persona de mente abierta que entienda que muchas cosas pueden ser sólo ficción, entonces no deberías leerlo. Pero como yo lo entiendo es como un libro de ficción, con tildes de suspenso y misterio muy bien enlazado que genera intriga que además sí contiene quizá otros puntos de vista respecto a quién pudo ser Jesucristo, pero no por ello resulta ofensivo. Más bien es un punto de vista mucho más humano en mi opinión.
Aunque ciertamente las ideas expuestas por Brown en este libro han sido fuertemente criticadas por supuestos errores en cuanto a hechos históricos y culturales, honestamente yo no considero esos errores como algo relevante. Es un libro de ficción, la historia narrada por supuesto no ha ocurrido en realidad, por lo que no veo necesario que el autor haya tenido que describir sus argumentos a la perfección. Tener un debate sobre ello para mí no viene al caso.
Este libro debería ser tomado como la novela de suspenso que es y debería tenerse en cuenta siempre que simplemente es un entretenimiento que expone ideas que te gusten o no son interesantes porque son diferentes.
Lo más divertido de este libro (y de todos los de la saga) son los diversos acertijos que se deben ir resolviendo para lograr conseguir las pistas. Para el momento en el que leí este libro siendo una adolescente desconocía muchas cosas, por lo que me devoraba las páginas intentando leer rápido para encontrar una explicación.
Gracias a estos libros comenzó mi gusto por este tipo de historias de thriller, son demasiado entretenidas y te ponen a pensar. Por supuesto también el tema religioso siempre me ha interesado por lo que al ver esta perspectiva tan distinta también se me hizo cuanto menos curioso de leer.
En general es un libro que recomiendo completamente teniendo en cuenta los aspectos que ya resalté antes. Es una historia que te puede encantar, siendo capaz de hacerte leer en libro en apenas un par de días de lo enganchado que quedas. Así que si tienes la oportunidad, deberías leerlo.
Recuerdo la controversia y el revuelo que despertó el libro. Como dices, debe ser considerado como es: una historia de ficción porque si se analiza, tiene muchas fallas históricas, que para la trama son convenientes. En lo particular, me gustó más Ángeles y demonios. Y ya quiero leer tu reseña y opinión sobre el símbolo perdido. Saludos.
Exactamente. Los errores están pero son convenientes en una trama que simplemente está para entretenerte. Sinceramente a pesar de los errores se puede llegar a aprender ciertas cosas muy interesantes, al igual que en los otros libros de la saga.
Yo creo que mi favorito es El Símbolo Perdido, pero de eso sin duda hablaré más adelante :) aunque me cuesta dejar Ángeles y Demonios en un segundo lugar; ambos libros son demasiado buenos.
