Alicia Martínez del Hoyo , nació en La Habana el 21 de diciembre de 1920 y falleció en La Habana el 17 de octubre de 2019, más conocida como Alicia Alonso, fue una bailarina profesional y coreógrafa cubana. Famosa por sus representaciones de Giselle y Carmen, además de otras grandes obras del repertorio clásico y romántico. Fue la figura cimera del ballet en Iberoamérica y uno de los grandes mitos de la danza.

Hay un testimonio en particular que me ha gustado mucho, el escrito por Dulce María Loynas. Hay una frase que tiene mucho significado y fuerza para quien la lea y sepa interpretarla , dice así: La bailarina debe moverse como una luz…Es decir, no debe tener pies porque la luz no la tiene, y si los tiene a pesar del precepto, debe olvidarse de ellos, portarse como si no los tuviera. Estas fueron las palabras clave de esta gran autora, sin lugar a dudas palabras que caracterizaron el baile y la actuación de esta gran mujer. La Loynas también se refiere a que ninguna otra bailarina ha asimilado mejor la gran sentencia de Isadora Duncan como nuestra Alicia Alonso.
