I've wanted to talk about books on Hive for a while now, but since I'm not currently reading literature, except for college books, I haven't been able to bring you fresh and good reviews. However, this initiative by @littlegremlin, familiar to me from @lililuki's post, opened the doors for me to talk about my favorite books ever.
(I'll be leaving out my favorite saga books because I feel like it would be taking a fraction of a long story, and therefore, context, out of it).
Let's get started!
Hace tiempo que quería hablar sobre libros en Hive, pero como no estoy leyendo actualmente literatura, salvo libros de la Universidad, no he podido traerles reseñas frescas y buenas. Sin embargo, esta iniciativa de @littlegremlin, conocida por mí en el post de @lililuki, me abrió las puertas para hablar de mis libros favoritos de toda la vida.
(Estaré dejando de lado mis libros favoritos de sagas, porque siento que seria sacar una fracción de una larga historia, y por tanto, de su contexto.)

Isabel Allende is an excellent writer. As soon as I started the story, I was transported to the 18th century and I identified with the relevant women who appeared there, her protagonist Zarité, the beautiful Violette Boiser, and Rossete, Zarité's daughter. I remember that I even wrote a poem to each of the characters; her characters are so human and real, that simply, in a historical novel, you believe that this really happened.
"Of all the characters I've created, Zarité's is for me the one I have the strongest sense that she existed" - Isabelle Allende.
The Island Under the Sea is a book that tells the story of Zarité, a black slave woman from Haiti. The story is set in the late 1700s and early 1800s, between Haiti and New Orleans. As a child, what she wanted most was freedom and to live fully in her religion and her body. However, as a child, she was sold to the Frenchman Toulouse Valmorain, a new European lord who came to Haiti to take care of the sugar plantation left by her father. From then on Zarité struggles with rape, the care of the house, the care of the lord's sick wife, and the upbringing of her white son and her mulatto. Her spirit is one of utmost patience, courage, and perseverance to achieve freedom and love. In the end, she achieves that, and is happy, although not everything is perfect, of course... Isabelle Allende makes it all so real.
From this book, I learned why there is a large black population in New Orleans, their customs, their languages, and African cultures. This book for me was like I traveled to all those places and lived from my own flesh slavery. So, it's like a big glass of culture, I highly recommend it.

Isabel Allende es una escritora excelente. No más comencé la historia, me traslade al siglo XVIII. Me identifiqué con las mujeres relevantes que aparecieron ahí, su protagonista Zarité, la bella Violette Boiser, y Rossete, la hija de Zarité. Me acuerdo que hasta le hice un poema a cada uno de los personajes; sus personajes son tan humanos y reales, que simplemente, en una novela histórica, te crees que esto pasó de verdad.
"De todos los personajes que he creado, el de Zarité es para mí el que más tengo la sensación de que existió" - Isabelle Allende.
La isla bajo el mar es un libro que narra la historia de Zarité, una mujer negra y esclava de Haití. La historia se ambiente en los finales de los años 1700 y los comienzos de los 1800, entre Haití y Nueva Orleans. Desde niña, lo que más deseaba era la libertad y vivir plenamente en su religión y en su cuerpo. Sin embargo, de niña es vendida al francés Toulouse Valmorain, un nuevo señor europeo llegado a Haití a cuidar la plantación de azúcar que había dejado su padre. A partir de ahí Zarité lucha contra las violaciones, el cuidado de la casa, de la esposa enferma del señor, y de la crianza del hijo blanco y de su mulata. Su espíritu es de una máxima paciencia, valentía y perseverancia para conseguir la libertad y el amor. Al final ella consigue eso, y es feliz, aunque no todo es perfecto, claro... Isabelle Allende hace todo tan real.
Por este libro aprendí por qué hay una gran población negra en Nueva Orleans, sus costumbres, sus idiomas y culturas africanas. Este libro para mí fue como si viajara a todos esos lugares y viviera desde mi propia carne la esclavitud. Así que, es como un gran vaso de cultura, se los recomiendo muchísimo.

I was introduced to this book at the age of twelve at a convention at my high school, but it didn't catch my attention. However at the age of fifteen, it popped up in Google Play Books recommendations, so I started reading the first few pages for free and when they ran out I was determined to buy it in physical.

Este libro se me dio a conocer a la edad de doce años en una convención que hicieron en mi liceo, pero no me llamó la atención. Sin embargo a la edad de quince años, se me apareció en recomendaciones de Google Play Books, así que empecé a leer las primeras páginas gratuitas y cuando se acabaron me determiné a comprarlo en físico.

For that time, buying a physical book was really special. It meant that the book was worth it. I saved for about half a year to buy the book, however, at Christmas, it arrived as a gift from my mother. As you can see in the photos, it is very worn, and don't think that I don't take care of books, only that this one, in particular, has accompanied me on many adventures.
Anne Frank was my companion in many of my difficult moments in adolescence. Living in a country like Venezuela, especially between the years 2015-2018, while you start your youth, was not easy for me. And, although I don't compare it to experiencing something as horrible as total discrimination for who I am, while there is a world war going on, it was as if Ana was writing those letters for me. Again, I traveled back in time, and besides, I had a friend from the 20th century.
Para ese tiempo, comprar un libro en físico era realmente especial. Eso quería decir que el libro valía la pena. Ahorré como por medio año para comprarme el libro, sin embargo, en navidad, me llegó como regalo por parte de mi madre. Como ven en las fotos, está muy desgastado, y no crean que no cuido los libros, solo que este en especial me ha acompañado en muchas aventuras.

The first time I read it I simply found it entertaining, but last year when I started my forties, I reread it, being the same age as the protagonist and having a better understanding of the context of the society in which they lived. That time I was amazed, I kept being surprised, laughing, and imagining myself at dances of the time, trying to find a rich man so that my family would not fall into decadence.
This book talks about the human condition and English patriarchal society, through its protagonist Elizabeth Bennet, an intelligent middle-class girl in 18th century England.
"At the center of this society is the Bennet family, with their five marriageable daughters, ages fifteen to twenty-three (from oldest to youngest: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine, and Lydia). Mrs. Bennet sees marriage as the only hope for her daughters, for after Mr. Bennet's death the young women will be left to fend for themselves when William Collins, the girls' cousin, inherits everything because the property is part of an entailed estate of which he is a beneficiary." -quote from Wikipedia.
If Elizabeth's father dies, the property and his other assets, would not be inherited by his daughters simply because they are female, but to the nearest male relative. So, marriage is the only hope for the Bennet family, besides it was the custom of the time and social class to "marry well". The story begins with the arrival of a young man of good fortune in town, with whom Mrs. Bennet proposes to marry one of her daughters. This man brings with him Mr. Darcy, a proud man, who will be the target of Elizabeth's prejudices and her future romantic interest.

La primera vez que la leí sencillamente se me hizo entretenida, pero el año pasado cuando inició la cuarentena, la volví a releer, teniendo la misma edad que la protagonista y entendiendo mejor el contexto de la sociedad en la que vivían. Esa vez me maravilló, no paraba de sorprenderme, de reír y de imaginarme en bailes de la época, tratando de encontrar un hombre rico para que mi familia no cayera en la decadencia.
Este libro habla sobre la condición humana y sobre la sociedad patriarcal inglesa, a través de su protagonista Elizabeth Bennet, una inteligente muchacha de clase media en la Inglaterra del siglo XVIII.
"En el centro de esta sociedad se encuentra la familia Bennet, con sus cinco hijas casaderas, de entre quince y veintitrés años (de mayor a menor: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine y Lydia). Si el padre de Elizabeth muere, la propiedad y sus demás bienes, no lo heredarían sus hijas por el simple hecho de ser mujeres, sino al pariente más cercano que fuera hombre. Así que, el matrimonio es la única esperanza para la familia Bennet, además de que era la costumbre de la época y de la clase social, "casarse bien". La historia comienza con la llegada de un joven de buena fortuna al pueblo, con el cual la señora Bennet se propone a casar a una de sus hijas. Este hombre trae consigo al señor Darcy, un hombre orgulloso, que será el objetivo de prejuicios de Elizabeth y su futuro interés romántico.

This is not just a book about romance and marriage or a book for housewives. It is a book that talks about the desperation of those women, forced to attend balls to find a good husband, to behave at the height of society, to be a "correct lady". It also talks about the natural pride and prejudice of human beings, and how we transform them into big monster by living in such closed societies. It is a criticism of these societies, from a humorous tone, ridiculing them, in the style of Jane Austen.
The edition I have is from 1979, paperback and it is only the first part of the story. I had to read the second part in PDF. The worst thing is that this edition ends with Darcy's first proposal, plunging you into despair to know what comes next.
Este no es un simple libro de romance y matrimonio, o un libro para mujeres amas de casa. Es un libro que habla sobre la desesperación de esas mujeres, obligadas a asistir a bailes para encontrar un buen esposo, de comportarse a la altura de la sociedad, de ser una "señorita correcta". Además habla sobre el orgullo y el prejuicio natural de los seres humanos, y el como transformamos a estos en un gran monstruo al vivir en sociedades tan cerradas. Es una critica a estas sociedades, desde el tono humorístico, poniéndolas en ridículo, al estilo de Jane Austen.
La edición que yo tengo es de 1979, de bolsillo y es solo la primera parte de la historia. La segunda parte la tuve que leer en PDF. Lo peor es que esta edición termina con la primera proposición de Darcy, sumiéndote en una desesperación por saber que viene después.
All these books have in common that they were written by women and have very strong and intelligent female protagonists who suffer the violence of humanity, especially because of their sex, and in the case of Anne Frank, because of her religion and family. They are books that are really worth your last fifteen minutes of the day, and your first reflections of the morning.

Todos estos libros tienen en común que fueron escritos por mujeres y tienen protagonistas mujeres, muy fuertes e inteligentes, las cuales sufren la violencia de la humanidad, en especial, por su sexo, y en el caso de Ana Frank, por su religión y familia.
