Breaking the circle (My opinion)

Me terminé de leer Rompiendo el círculo sin esperar demasiado, aunque sabía que era de Colleen Hoover, autora de la que no había escuchado muy buenas opiniones. Sin embargo, para mi sorpresa, el libro me gustó bastante y dejó en mí un mensaje significativo.

I finished reading Breaking the Circle without expecting too much, even though I knew it was by Colleen Hoover, an author of whom I had not heard very good reviews. However, to my surprise, I liked the book quite a bit and it left a meaningful message in me.

La novela trata sobre Lily Bloom, quien ha tenido una infancia difícil, pero ha logrado salir adelante y dejar todo atrás mudándose a Boston. Allí conoce a un neurocirujano llamado Ryle Kincaid, quien al principio muestra una faceta encantadora, pero con el tiempo deja ver una actitud violenta y abusiva, haciendo que Lily caiga en un bucle del que debe escapar, pues ha estado atrapada en él toda su vida.

The novel is about Lily Bloom, who has had a difficult childhood, but has managed to get ahead and leave everything behind by moving to Boston. There she meets a neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, who at first shows a charming side, but eventually reveals a violent and abusive attitude, causing Lily to fall into a loop from which she must escape, as she has been trapped in it her whole life.

Al principio, percibí que teníamos a una protagonista acostumbrada a una vida marcada por el maltrato. Luego conoce a alguien que, en un inicio, le ofrece algo diferente: Ryle, un hombre guapo y sarcástico a los ojos de Lily, con quien conecta rápidamente, aunque con una tensión que se desarrolla más adelante. Esto hizo que me pareciera muy interesante cómo comienza la historia y cómo evoluciona la relación.

At the beginning, I perceived that we had a protagonist accustomed to a life marked by mistreatment. Then she meets someone who, at first, offers her something different: Ryle, a handsome and sarcastic man in Lily's eyes, with whom she quickly connects, although with a tension that develops later on. This made me find it very interesting how the story begins and how the relationship evolves.

Simultáneamente, el libro nos muestra el pasado de la protagonista con su primer amor, Atlas. Para resumir, lo que vemos es cómo su relación con Ryle se vuelve tóxica, alcanzando un nivel de manipulación bastante alto, lo que nos hace sufrir, pero también entender a Lily.

Simultaneously, the book shows us the protagonist's past with her first love, Atlas. To summarize, what we see is how her relationship with Ryle becomes toxic, reaching a rather high level of manipulation, which makes us suffer, but also understand Lily.

Creo que puede ser un libro incómodo de leer, pero que aborda el tema de la manera adecuada, mostrando cómo estas situaciones pueden convertirse en un ciclo del que parece imposible salir. Aunque a la larga haya arrepentimiento, también hay aprendizaje. En mi opinión, es un buen libro que me ayudó a entender un poco por qué esta autora es tan reconocida.

I think it can be an uncomfortable book to read, but it approaches the subject in the right way, showing how these situations can become a cycle that seems impossible to get out of. Although there is regret in the long run, there is also learning. In my opinion, it is a good book that helped me understand a bit of why this author is so well known.
