It's time again for my favorite books, and one of them is Elantris written by Brandon Sanderson. An Epic Fantasy book that I loved the first time I read it, when I finished it I wanted more.
With Elantris is known the Cosmere, that particular universe of Sanderson that is named in the novel with two continents that form it, I think that in the networks circulates that there is a third, but Brando Sardenson has not yet given it.

What did I like about Elantris? Politics, religion and magic are present in all of it, they cannot be separated, the political world is marked by the way of reigning the one who has more is the one who can more, as for religion are the codes that follow the ones that point where the inhabitants of Arelon and Duladel are going, while magic, always present, is only executed after knowing the aeones that are ways that only the knowledgeable can perform.

What struck me the first time I read Elantris was that Sanderson did not go in search of the Hero's Journey found in most Epic Fantasy books and another thing to note: it is not a clone of my adored The Lord of the Rings by Master Tolkien.
Reading many reviews that were made to this Sanderson's work I disagree in many: they say that the plot is weak, that the ending is predictable, that the characters are not what they expected and so long etcetera.
Lo que mas me impactó la primera vez que leí Elantris fue que Sanderson no se fue en busca del Viaje del Héroe que se encuentra en la mayoría de los libros de Fantasía Épica y otra cosa a destacar: no es un clon de mi adorado El Señor de los Anillos del Maestro Tolkien.
Al leer muchas críticas que se le hicieron a esta obra de Sanderson estoy en desacuerdo en muchas: dicen que la trama es floja, que el final es previsible, que los personajes no son lo que esperaban y así un largo etcétera.

For a first published work, it is very well-argued, many are truly exceptional critics, and many times they allow subjectivity to be bypassed by the objective. I say this because I started reading it without expecting much and it gave me more than I expected.
With three very well elaborated characters, on whom falls the best of the work. The development of a political system and a religious system teaches us why in that world everything unfolds and develops in that way, and the magic as Sanderson has developed it is seen in this novel and in the rest of his works.
Para ser su primera obra publicada está muy bien argumentada, muchos en verdad son críticos excepcionales y muchas veces dejan que la subjetividad sea soslayada por lo objetivo. Esto lo digo porque comencé a leerla sin esperar mucho y me dio mas de lo que aspiraba.
Con tres personajes muy bien elaborados, sobre quienes recae lo mejor de la obra. El desarrollo de un sistema político y de un sistema religioso que nos enseña porqué allí en ese mundo todo se desenvuelve y se desarrolla de esa forma, y la magia como la ha desarrollado Sanderson se ve en esta novela y en el resto de sus obras.

Brandon Sanderson as a writer won me over about five years ago (when it was the tenth anniversary of the publication of Elantris if I remember correctly), I have read several of his sagas as The Reckoners, Alcatra and the evil librarians, and I was definitely hooked when I read the Wheel of Time being shocked as he developed what Jordan, before his death, had argued to finish his work. The choice of Sanderson by Jordan's wife to close his work was primarily due to The Final Empire of the Born of the Mist saga, and Sanderson being a big fan of Jordan.
Brandon Sanderson is a writer born in Nebraska, U.S.A., in the year 1975 and at first, he studied biochemistry for two years to obtain a scholarship, then he became a missionary for two more years, but none of this filled him until he enrolled in a creative writing course, and it was during these courses that he conceived his best-known work Elantris, it was his fellow students who encouraged him to write and rewrite his story, and then, when he decided to publish it his publisher advised him to change the name (his name would be The Spirit of Elantris) until he cut it to the form that made him famous.

If you decide to read it you must read it with your heart, the lessons it brings of how faith can crack and see where the mistakes are, read it with gusto, that's how I read it and it made me go to a higher level of Epic Fantasy, or High Fantasy as the Wheel of Time is. Truly, it has been a rewarding experience every time I read it.*
