Hello, readers! This book is the most random purchase I've made, I just wanted to try my Zinli credit card and I saw that a Tiktoker I liked a few months ago had an offer on this book. She has a weird sense of humor that I like and a complicated life experience since she was on drugs for a long part of her past. I knew this much but nothing more. In a Facebook live, she talked about one chapter of the book and I got interested, so I took the offer and read it very fast because the story, her story, was interesting and told in a fresh, funny, dark way.
Can be inspirational not just for those who have experienced drug abuse, but also for those who feel stuck and want to find a way to move forward.

It's not common for me to purchase things on the internet, this just happened. Laura Clery, I knew about her from her TikTok videos, never saw more than that or what she posts on Facebook, this book was less than two dollars so was great to test my new card, anyway, turns out she's much more than a Tiktoker and has come a long way to get to the level she's living right now. This book narrates her story from her childhood when she got her dream to become an actress, through her journey with very loose parenting structure, bad friends, and bad decisions, doing drugs, especially how drugs and alcohol dictated a huge part of her youth.

It does have a happy ending but it's not a fairy tale. She describes the process of getting sober and how people around her made a huge difference, in fact, how some people around her made her hit rock bottom and other people helped her stand up again. And people played a great part in saving her life, her big sisters, especially the middle sister, some boyfriends also were good for her (others were the ones that put her down)

The biggest part is that, even though all of them helped, only she had the power to recover and get sober again. Everybody, including the AA program, could only give her the tools to get sober, to be healthy, to stop her self-destruction, but only she could decide to use them and keep using them even if she feels like she doesn't need them anymore.

She didn't have good grades, didn't care about most of the subjects but theater, that was her thing, she took that one seriously enough to don't get high the night before presentations. She was doing great, even went to competitions, writing her own monologue, but was caught by a teacher doing cigarettes in a restaurant and got disqualified. That sent her to a spiral down, that was the one thing that kept her sane, the one way she had to make it, everybody else had academic success but she didn't have that, this was her way out and now it was screwed.

While reading the book I noticed that the sister was very committed to saving Laura when she was in a danger, far from just sisterhood, and this might be why. She gave her the money to go to LA and then pushed her to accept the call of this "Photographer" Damon. There in NY she fully fell into her addiction to drugs and alcohol and had an abusive relationship with Damon who almost killed her on several occasions.

At those parties, she made some gay friends who saved her and let her stay with them in their home.

They finally moved out and were able to forget Damon. Now she was focusing again on her dream. Kind of. The problem with addictions is that you can't just decide to stop and that's it, because the body keeps asking for more and your mind is fooled to believe that the good feelings from drugs are real.

I'll jump here a bit, you just have to know that she messed up a lot of opportunities, even a good relationship, because she wasn't able to communicate her feelings and thoughts, she was abusing again without telling her boyfriend, and was still surrounded by people drinking and abusing so, there is a lot in the middle of leaving Damon's side and starting her recuperation for real. Remember, no fairy tale. This wasn't the happy ending, in movies the top of happiness is the wedding day and end. They lived in a one-bedroom apartment with some complicated neighbors, then moved to another house which was okay, but, terrible memories happened there. They had to separate again because the work overload made Stephen break this time. He relapsed and during that time he was lying and being verbally abused. Laura was scared of what he threatened to do and that she could relapse near him, so she made a plan to move. Didn't do it immediately because he woke up and threw out the drugs he was abusing, but he went to withdrawal, a very dangerous one, he almost died. For that drug, you need to get clean medically, the withdrawal can cause mortal seizures, that's why deciding to quit is not enough.

He finished his thirty days but didn't feel ready to go to the real world so he went to a rehabilitation house. There Laura told him she had to move, to put distance so she can focus on her and stay sober and he can work on his own sobriety. He understood that she still loved him, it wasn't a divorce, he was the one who put distance before when she relapsed. The good thing is he did it, finally they started dating again until Laure felt safe that he was ready to stay sober. A lot happened to prove this to her.

I said "ending" because that was just the beginning, at the end of the book she said they had a baby, Alfi, and I've seen that baby grow through their social media, now they have a baby girl, Poppy, and battle with other things. They live now a luxurious life, very different from the life Laura had as a kid she got that dream, but with the deal now with having to work every day to stay sobers, her baby boy is autistic so they need o take care of him, to educate him correctly in an understanding manner, they learned Stephen was an undiagnostic autistic too so, life continues after the end of the book, and it's great to see that your mistakes are not the end, that it doesn't matter when you finally start with the right foot, if you are alive, you are still on time.

100% would recommend if you need inspiration, want to laugh, or want to say "Damn, I'm glad it wasn't me" The title is pretty accurate, you will want to say "Idiot" all the time.
