Confieso que cuando comencé a leer este libro, tenía ciertas reservas. Aunque soy fan de los títulos novedosos, este en particular, no llamó mi atención y me llevó a pensar en ese tipo de libros que, desde el principio, te hacen llorar. Sin embargo, después de tanta insistencia mediática, porque vi varias recomendaciones por varias redes sociales, decidí darle una oportunidad y hoy puedo decir que me dejó una buena impresión.
Solo diré que ha sido una lectura bastante agradable para mí. Me gustó muchísimo la narrativa de la autora, la aparición de #hashtag anunciando las ideas (o temas centrales) de la novela, intentando mostrar aspectos relacionados con la vida de ambas mujeres. Me gustó acercarme a la vida de Marie Curie de esta forma, porque lo que sé de ella es lo que siempre se dice. Las biografías pueden llegar a ser tan frías que deshumanizan a las personas.
I confess that when I started reading this book, I had some reservations. Although I am a fan of novelty titles, this one in particular didn't catch my attention and led me to think about those kinds of books that, from the beginning, make you cry. However, after so much media insistence, because I saw several recommendations by several social networks, I decided to give it a chance and today I can say that it left me a good impression.
I will only say that it has been a quite pleasant reading for me. I really liked the author's narrative, the appearance of #hashtag announcing the ideas (or central themes) of the novel, trying to show aspects related to the life of both women. I liked approaching Marie Curie's life in this way, because what I know about her is what is always said. Biographies can become so cold that they dehumanize people.
Sobre esta novela, podría decir que entre sus temas el duelo es relevante, ocupando buena parte de la obra, pero también hay se visibiliza el rol de la mujer en el mundo de la investigación, de la ciencia o, en el mundo de los hombres. Nuestra narradora, a partir de la reconstrucción biográfica de la vida de Marie Curie, cuenta el dolor de la pérdida: Marie perdiendo a Pierre y la narradora perdiendo a Pablo.
Por momentos, sentía que la novela estaba dedicada a la biografía de ella, pero, al parecer, es una forma de la escritora de contar su propio duelo sin caer en su autobiografía. No a todo el mundo le sale contar ciertos aspectos de la vida directamente y prefieren hacer gala de su creatividad literaria como en este caso.
About this novel, I could say that among its themes, grief is relevant, occupying a good part of the work, but there is also the role of women in the world of research, science or in the world of men. Our narrator, from the biographical reconstruction of Marie Curie's life, tells the pain of loss: Marie losing Pierre and the narrator losing Pablo.
At times, I felt that the novel was devoted to her biography, but, apparently, it is a way for the writer to recount her own grief without falling into her autobiography. Not everyone likes to tell certain aspects of life directly and prefers to show off their literary creativity as in this case.
Esa reconstrucción nos permite acércanos a Marie, lidiando con su vida, el rechazo, la maternidad, la tristeza, la enfermedad, el escándalo, el duelo, pero también el orgullo de atreverse, de buscar lo que quería, aunque eso significara dejar de hacer lo que se debe y honrar a su padre. Su vida no fue fácil, su muerte al parecer tampoco.
Pierre fue un hombre importante en su vida y sin él su vida cambió totalmente.
Al mismo tiempo, se deja ver los sentimientos de nuestra narradora en relación con la perdida de su esposo. Las cosas que faltaron por decir y hacer, además de la sensación de sentir que el tiempo entre ellos quedó corto. Esto sirve de base para reflexionar en torno a lo efímera de la vida, la importancia de las parejas en nuestras vidas y aprender a vivir sin ellos.
Para mí es una obra que puede servir para ser llevada a un club de lectura, para trabajar temas como el lugar de la mujer en la investigación: sus alcances, su legado. También para conversar sobre el duelo, así como, de la escritura como una forma para mostrar nuestro mundo, contarnos a nosotros mismos y crear mundos posibles en los que tanto el narrador y el lector se unan para compartirlos.
This reconstruction allows us to get closer to Marie, dealing with her life, rejection, motherhood, sadness, illness, scandal, grief, but also the pride of daring, of seeking what she wanted, even if it meant giving up doing what was right and honoring her father. His life was not easy, his death apparently neither.
Pierre was an important man in her life and without him her life changed completely.
At the same time, our narrator's feelings about the loss of her husband are revealed. The things that were left unsaid and undone, as well as the feeling that the time between them was short. This serves as a basis to reflect on the ephemerality of life, the importance of partners in our lives and learning to live without them.
For me it is a work that can be taken to a book club, to work on topics such as the place of women in research: their scope, their legacy. Also to talk about grief, as well as about writing as a way to show our world, to tell ourselves and to create possible worlds in which both the narrator and the reader come together to share them.
