Hello friends
It's been a while since I've been here with you, losing myself in the pages of classic and contemporary books.
However, today a friend came over and gave me a book. Can you imagine? A book of poetry. My friend's name is Yoan. He has a mild intellectual disability, but he's very intelligent, and even though he's like a child in an adult's body, he loves art, no matter the form it takes.
My friend really enjoys poetry and is always with us at all the cultural activities we do at any of the institutions in my city of Las Tunas.
Yoan arrived today with Paper Figures and Other Poems, by the Manzanillo-born writer Miguel Sánchez León.
The author of the book is not only dedicated to poetry, as he holds degrees in History and Sociology, and is also a researcher at the National Center for the Performing Arts. He has won several awards, including the Raúl Hernández Novás International Poetry Prize, for the poem that gives this book its title.
He has also published plays, and his poems have been selected for national and international anthologies and magazines. Without a doubt, this is a book by an author we should all read.
Paper Figures and Other Poems is a book of free verse poems. Free from meter, rhyme, a fixed structure, or an atmosphere confined to a specific or particular form.
It is divided into four parts. Each one is filled with poetry. A colloquial or conversational poetry, characteristic of the time and age of the poet, of the time and style of Luis Rogelio Nogueras and many others of his era.
A collective of prominent figures in the country worked on the publication of this book, undertaking the difficult art of bringing a book of poetry to light.
Names like Alfredo Montoro, Patricio Herrera, Belinda Delgado, and Isabel Hernández, in art direction and design, cover illustration, typography, and layout, were attentive to the guidance of editor Arnaldo Muñoz.
This gem was published by Editorial Letras Cubanas, one of the leading national publishing houses on our island. This poetic work was born in 2011.
Each verse of this work allows us to understand and analyze reality from new experiences and perspectives. The poetic discourse is the intersection between the tangible and the sublime, only briefly dwelling on Cuban identity.
Like a play on words, this book arrives refreshingly to nourish our souls. I want to share its verses and make them available to you.
Lovers on the Roof
I turn the page and find that we walk
like a happy stain
where the skillful night
arrives slowly and shakes,
filing away the old ornamentation, the moss,
the muffled barking between the doorways,
the spaciousness
in the immense neighbor's house.
It's no longer a feint then
to pick up a stunned cat among the cans,
to climb dark, snail-like steps
and settle ourselves, proud, free, clandestine
on the smooth, sleepless roof.
I'm sure you'll agree with me that Yoan gave me a wonderful gift. I'm very grateful. We'll meet again in the pages of a book.

Hola amigos
Hacía algún tiempo que no estaba por acá con ustedes, perdiéndonos en las páginas de los libros clásicos y actuales.
Sin embargo hoy, vino un amigo y me regaló un libro. Se imaginan, un libro de poesía. Mi amigo se llama Yoan, tiene un retraso mental ligero, pero es muy inteligente y aunque sea como un niño en el cuerpo de un adulto es amante del arte y no importa por cuál de las manifestaciones, él ama todo el arte.
A mí amigo le gusta mucho la poesía y siempre está con nosotros en todas las actividades culturales que realizamos en cualquiera de las instituciones de mi ciudad de Las Tunas.
Yoan hoy llegó con Figuras de papel y otros poemas, del escritor manzanilleroMiguel Sánchez León.
El autor del libro no solo se dedica a la poesía, pues se licenció en Historia y en Sociología, además, es investigador del Centro Nacional de las Artes Escénicas. Ha obtenido varios premios, entre ellos, el Premio Internacional de Poesía Raúl Hernández Novás, justo con el poema que da título a este libro.
También tiene publicado libros de teatro, y sus poemas han sido escogidos para antologías y revistas nacionales y extranjeras. Sin dudas, es un libro de un autor que debemos leer.
Figuras de papel y otros poemas es un libro conformado por poemas en versos libres. Libres de métrica, rima, de una estructura obligada o de una atmósfera cerrada a una forma específica o especial.
Está dividido en cuatros partes. Cada una de ellas está llena de poesía. Una poesía coloquial o conversacional, propia del tiempo y la edad del poeta, del tiempo y el estilo de Luis Rogelio Nogueras y otros tantos como los de su época.
Trabajaron en la edición de este libro un colectivo con nombres grandes en el país en el difícil arte de dar luz a un libro de poesía.
Nombres como Alfredo Montoro, Patricio Herrera, Belinda Delgado e Isabel Hernández, en dirección artística y diseño, ilustración de cubierta, marcaje tipográfico y diagramación, estuvieron atentos a las orientaciones del editor Arnaldo Muñoz.
Esta joya, vio la luz por la Editorial Letras Cubanas, una de las casa editoriales de carácter nacional en nuestra isla. Este parto poético se realizó en el año 2011.
Cada verso de esta obra nos llega a entender y analizar la realidad desde nuevas vivencias y apariencias. El discurso poético es la intersección entre lo tangible y lo más alto y solo se detiene un tanto en la identidad cubana.
Como un juego de palabras nos llega este libro de forma refrescante para limentarnos el alma. Quiero compartir sus versos y ponerlos a su disposición.
Los amantes sobre el tejado
Vuelvo la hoja y encuéntrome que andamos
como mancha feliz
donde la noche hábil
llega lenta y sacude,
limando el viejo ornato, el musgo,
el ladrido apagado entre los zaguanes,
la amplitud
en la casona inmensa de vecinos.
Ya no es amago entonces
coger un gato estupefacto entre las latas,
escalar por peldaños oscuros caracoles
e instalarnos orondos, gratuitos, clandestinos
sobre el terso desvelo del tejado.
Seguro estarán de acuerdo conmigo a que Yoan me hizo un gran regalo. Yo estoy muy agradecida. La cita es volvernos a encontrar en las páginas de un libro.
