So-called “Witch Hunter” Helen Ukpabio is suing humanist activist Leo Igwe again. Ukpabio’s lawyer sent a letter to Leo Igwe alleging defamation based on an article critical of her methods that Igwe denies writing. Ukpabio is infamous for claiming that babies can be possessed by devils, and promoting abuse and persecution of those accused of witchcraft. Igwe was previously sued by her after her congregation of 150 people physically attacked him at a conference he organized in 2009 to stop child abuse resulting from witchcraft allegations. Now she is demanding a retraction of this article, which she claims is defamation, an apology, and a payment that equates to roughly $52 million USD.

That is outrageous. I read about this Helen Ukpabio and it looks like it is a widespread truth that she attributes any normal children's behavior, such as crying at night to demonic possessions. how dumb can someone be? And on top of that she sues for a firture someone who allegedly stated what everyone else says and she herself said in a book! I don't understand. I wonder if the court will rule in her favor.
What I find more intriguing and scary is that according the information we find on line this preacher seems to have a lot of power, both economic and ideological. The fact that she has followers in Nigeria and other african countries, that she has published books, runs film companies, etc. suggests that she has turned her supersticious views into a corporation.
If Africa is to remve the stigma of ignorance and backwarness, all african countries must join forces to fence off religious leaders such as Ukpabio.
