A 13-year-old Iranian girl was beheaded in her sleep by her father on Thursday May 21st. The victim, Romina Ashrafi, had run away from home following her father’s opposition to her marrying a 35 year old man she had “fallen in love with.” Ashrafi was handed over to her father despite her repeated warnings that she would be in danger. After being found and returned home by the police, Ashrafi’s father killed her in her sleep using a sickle.

A father should be protecting his children, not killing them. That includes protecting her from a much older man when she is still a child. Is this a culture thing rather than about religion? I know little about Islam, but modern societies should also protect children, regardless of the faith of their parents.
He lied that he wanted to forgive her and actually killed her? I know it's understandable that she falling in love with a 35-year old is not great, but I feel this isn't associated with religion, it must have to do with traditional or cultural beliefs. truth is, I don't know much about Islam but I'm definitely sure killing her in her sleep isn't an Islamic thing but it must be influenced by the cultural practices of the man or the personal belief of the man. However it is, the man committeed a heineous crime and should go to jail.
How could a father kill his own daughter. No matter what the case or level of offence might be, death shouldn't have been the sentence from a father. This is a serious crime, because I believe there exists other ways to go by this issue than death. So unfortunate for the young girl
As barbaric as it can get. The whole system is at fault here. By allowing practices that send people back to the dark ages.
And to think that some venezuelan women and queer people, supporters of the maduro dictatorship, waved the iranian flag (beause they were ordered to do so) after Iran sent Venezuela some tankers with gasoline (a disgrace for an oil producer).
Institutional oppression is one thing; people who suffer and can't do anything to change their situation because a military force subjugate them;cultural savagery (self-inflicted mental oppression) is a different one. When at the indvidual level people accept these practices, adopts them as part of their culture and even defend them under barbaric religious justifications, they are beyond redemption.
She might be too young to claim the right of loving anyone she likes, but everyone has the right to life. I have not heard of religious concept that support killing of child while at sleep. Even, the fact of committing a terrible crime is enough to invoke a terrible judgement on himself.
