Spicy Lemongrass Tofu With Cauliflowers

Aromatic lemongrass tofu can be a great idea for a garden-inspired dinner.

Spicy Lemongrass (with lots of chilies and onions) is a type of seasoning that is popular in Indonesia. Usually, this spicy lemongrass seasoning is served for fried protein meals such as fried chicken, tofu, tempeh, and more. So, for this recipe today, I will make Spicy Lemongrass seaming for tofu.




As in the previous recipe, I also used herbs from my organic garden. So, before cooking, I harvest some ingredients first in my garden.

Before it gets completely dark, I have to complete the mission of cooking dinner for me and my husband. I harvested lemongrasses, kaffir lime leaves, and lots of chilies!

Meanwhile, for complementary vegetables for today's dinner, I used carrots and cauliflowers. You can also use broccoli, or your other favorite vegetables. So, let's get started.




The Ingredients

  • 200 grams of tofu
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/2 head of cauliflower (250 grams)
  • enough corn flour to coat the tofu

lemongrass seasoning

  • 3-5 stalks of lemongrass depending on the size, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 5 small cloves of red onion, chopped
  • enough chilies according to your taste
  • 3 tbsp of cooking oil
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of sugar



Cooking Instructions

Cut tofu into cubes or triangle shapes, according to your preferences. Don't forget to preheat the oven or an air fryer. Here, I am using an air-fryer to roast tofu pieces.

Coat the tofu with enough corn flour to make the tofu surface not wet.

Transfer tofu pieces to the roasting tray. Then, spray with a little cooking oil. Roast for about 20-25 minutes per side then don't forget to flip them.

While waiting for the tofu, we will cook the vegetables. Cut cauliflowers and carrots into pieces.

Boil water. Then, add a teaspoon of salt. Add cauliflowers and carrots. Boil them for about 5-7 minutes.

Chop all seasoning ingredients: lemongrass, chili, and onion.

After the vegetables are cooked, remove the vegetables and set aside from the boiling water.

Start to heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil over low heat. Then, add chopped lemongrass, chili, and onion, also kaffir lime leaves. Stir them well for a few moments until the chopped lemongrass looks wilted. Add salt and also sugar.

Add roasted tofu, and boiled vegetables. Keep stirring until they become well-mixed. Then remove and serve with rice.

This is the result of my cooking which I photographed directly in my garden, before it really got dark. Around 6.15 pm.

This spicy lemongrass seasoning is my husband's favorite. He said it tasted more savory and fragrant compared to other seasonings. Also, the tofu texture is still crispy on the outside because when roasting it uses a layer of corn flour.

I even remember the spicy taste of this dish until I wrote this blog. In fact, my hands still feel hot from chopping those crazy chilies. Lol.

My husband and I had dinner looking at our garden. Before it gets completely dark. <3
