Crispy Kale Chips - healthier option for snacks πŸ‘ŒπŸΏπŸŸ

in Plant Power (Vegan) β€’ 2 years ago

One of the cravings that I often struggle with is potato chips 🍠
I could eat them all day everyday πŸ˜… However, it's not the healthiest and best option for your body and health and yet, sometimes you just need that salty snack of some kind πŸ™ˆ

I do often go with the chips as I don't want to restrict myself too much but if I'm in a mood of a healthier lifestyle I love making kale chips!

This is a very quick, basic and healthy snack that helps to satisfy that annoying craving of chips πŸ˜€
I usually make it very basic - remove kale leaves from the stem, mix them with some coconut oil and salt.
Of course, you can choose any spices such as red pepper seasoning, some garlic or onion powder, maybe even some curry? 😏

Anyways, I love having this alone instead of chips or it is also very good for other dishes, for example, I sometimes add kale chips as a side for some stir-fry, cooked tofu or else!

You will need:
This is about 1 portion for me but you can share it as well or make a bigger batch

  • 4 big kale leaves (about 60 g. after taking of from the stems)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt (or more depending on preferences)
  • About 1 teaspoon of coconut oil

Preparation

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. It will heat while you make the other steps of the recipe.
  2. Take all the kale leaves and wash them under the water.

Dry the kale on a towel or with paper towels (by pressing them between towels). It is best to dry it completely.
  3. Remove leaves from the kale stem. Remove them in smaller pieces, but not too small.
  4. Mix the kale with a teaspoon of coconut oil with hands - massage the oil well with all the kale pieces.

Also add some salt to taste or about 1/4 teaspoon and mix it in.
  5. Spread the kale chips on a baking tray with baking paper. Put them apart from one another so that they don't touch each other. In this recipe I had to bake the chips in two batches as all of them didn't fit on one tray.
  6. Bake the kale chips in the oven (180 degrees Celsius) - make sure it is well preheated before putting the chips inside. And bake them only for 5-7 minutes or until it becomes crisp. Be careful not to burn them - make sure to always have an eye on the chips!

Wait for the chips to cool a bit or completely and you can already enjoy some healthier chips!

Have you tried kale chips already? 🍿

Since you are adding oil, do you know the calories?

Hi @cwow2! Happy Friday or Saturday. Look, 100 milliliters of coconut oil provides 862 calories. One teaspoon of coconut oil is equivalent to 2.5 milliliters, so it would be contributing only 21.55 calories to the preparation. Is really little. Greetings!

Ohh, ye that is really not much! Thanks for the answer :D
