A delicious recipe made from rice flour

Wishing all my dear friends a wonderful and blessed day!

At the heart of Sri Lankan cuisine lies a soft, warm, and comforting dish — Kiriya, made from rice flour and coconut milk. Often enjoyed as a light breakfast or a soothing evening meal, Kiriya reflects the island’s love for simple and nutritious food. Its smooth texture and gentle sweetness make it a favorite among both children and adults. With just a few basic ingredients, this humble recipe brings the cozy taste of home to every spoonful. Let’s take a step-by-step look at how to prepare this nourishing traditional dish.

The cooking process as follows.

First, take a bowl and add coconut milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until the sugar dissolves. Next, add rice flour into the mixture and stir until the flour fully dissolves in the coconut milk, forming a smooth batter.

Now place a pan on the stove and pour in the prepared batter mixture. Keep stirring continuously to prevent any lumps from forming. While stirring, gradually add in some cashew nuts, dried grapes (raisins), and a few cardamom pods. Continue to stir gently, allowing the mixture to thicken and the flavors to blend beautifully.

Next, once the mixture thickens well, transfer it into a lightly greased tray. Spread it out evenly to form a smooth, even layer.

Next, cut it into pieces of your desired shape and separate them.

In the end, Kiriya is more than just a meal. It evokes memories of family kitchens and cherished traditions. Served warm and softly sweet, it’s perfect on its own or with a piece of jaggery for added depth. As you enjoy this smooth and nourishing dish, allow it to bring you a moment of peace and a taste of Sri Lanka’s culinary heritage.

I hope you’ll try making it this way and enjoy every bite. That’s all from me for today. Wishing you a beautiful day ahead.
