Wishing a very good day to all my dear friends. 💛
The banana blossom dish is a beloved traditional Sri Lankan delicacy, well-known for its unique flavor, aroma, and high nutritional value. Commonly known as kesel muwa, the banana blossom is a rich source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making it a perfect ingredient for a healthy and hearty meal. Preparing a banana blossom dish requires a bit of care, as the blossoms must be finely cleaned and sliced before being cooked with spices and coconut milk. The end result is a flavorful, mildly spiced, and tender curry that pairs wonderfully with warm rice or roti.
So, let’s take a look at how this delightful and nourishing dish is prepared.

Materials Used.
1 Banana flower.
finely chopped onions.
curry leaves.
About 3 chopped green chilli pods.
A piece of cinnamon.
2 Tablespoon of cococnut oil.
1/2 teaspoon of Goraka Paste.
1 Teaspoon of Crushed garlic
3 Teaspoon of Roasted curry powder.
1/2 Teaspoon of turmeric powder.
1 Teaspoon of chili powder.
Salt to taste.
1 1/2 Cup of coconut milk.
A little water mixed with lime juice.

The cooking process as follows.
Now let’s get ready to prepare this dish. First, take the banana blossom and cut it into large pieces as shown below. Then, soak the pieces in water mixed with lime juice for a little while. This helps to remove any bitterness and preserve the blossom’s natural color.
Next, place a pan on the stove and add about two tablespoons of coconut oil. Allow the oil to heat until it turns slightly golden. Once the oil is hot, add chopped onions, pandan leaves, curry leaves, green chilli pods, cinnamon, and salt, then stir well to mix all the ingredients together.
Next, add the roasted curry powder, chili powder, turmeric powder, and a little salt to the mixture. Stir well until all the spices blend evenly and release their rich aroma.

Next, add the chopped banana blossom and coconut milk to the mixture. Cook for a few minutes until the ingredients are well combined and the flavors have blended nicely. Then remove it from the stove.
Banana blossom curry is more than just a meal — it is a celebration of tradition and the natural ingredients from the home garden. Every bite reflects the richness of Sri Lankan home cooking, where simple ingredients are transformed into nourishing food. Whether served for lunch or dinner, this curry will surely bring warmth and satisfaction to the table, reminding us of the beauty of wholesome, homemade meals. That’s all for today — I wish you all a wonderful day.
