Wishing a very good day to all my dear friends! ๐๐ How are you all doing?
Murukku is a beloved snack in Sri Lankan homes โ especially during festive seasons and tea-time gatherings. This new version brings a delightful twist: by adding curry powder and garlic to the wheat flour mixture, it creates a rich aroma and a flavorful spicy touch.
Itโs an easy recipe that adds an exciting boost to the traditional murukku, making it perfect for those who enjoy bold, savory flavors. ๐
So, letโs take a look at how to prepare it step by step!
Materials Used.
1 1/2 Cup of Wheat flour.
Curry leaves.
A little chopped garlic.
2 Green chilli pods,chopped.
1 Teaspoon of crushed chili powder.
1/2 Teaspoon of curry powder.
Salt to taste.
Some water.
Coconut oil for frying.
The cooking process as follows.
Now letโs get started with the preparation! First, using a wooden mortar and pestle, finely crush the curry leaves, garlic, and green chilies until they form a smooth, aromatic paste.
Next, take a bowl and add the wheat flour, chili powder, curry powder, and about one tablespoon of coconut oil. Mix them well together. Then, gradually add water little by little, mixing continuously until you form a smooth dough that is soft but not sticky.
Now, sprinkle a little wheat flour on a flat surface (or board) to prevent sticking. Then place the dough ball on it and gently roll it out with a rolling pin until it becomes thin and even.
Next, sprinkle the finely chopped curry leaves evenly over the rolled-out dough.Gently press them onto the surface so they stick well โ this will add a lovely aroma, color, and extra flavor to your murukku when fried.
Next, cut the dough into thin strips using a knife or cutter. Then, shape them into your preferred murukku designs โ you can twist, curl, or form small round shapes as you like.
Next, take a pan and pour in a sufficient amount of coconut oil. Place it on the stove and let the oil heat up well. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the prepared murukku pieces and fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy.
Once fried to a golden brown, these murukku become a crispy, resilient snack. Their delightful crunch and aromatic flavor make them perfect to enjoy with tea or to share with family and friends. Thatโs all for today โ see you next time with another delicious recipe! ๐
