In our country, most food prepared are available throughout, but available in different names at different places. One such famous traditional food I would like to share here is Venppngal, a South Indian breakfast recipe.. Let's not wait.
**INGREDIENTS REQUIRED **
FOR PRESSURE COOKING
- Raw rice - 1 cup
- Moong dal (lentil) - 1/2 cup
- Water - 2 1/2 cup
- Salt - as per your taste
- Coconut oil- 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves - 2 or 3 sprigs
FOR SPLUTTERNG
- Coconut oil- 3 tbsp
- Crushed Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Crushed Black pepper - 1 tsp
- Asafoetida- 1 tsp powdered
- Ginger - 1 tsp finely chopped
PREPARATION METHOD
STEP - 1
Clean the rice and dal and soak it for 2 hrs Now transfer them to a pressure cooker along with the required salt and cook it for 5 minutes after the first whistle, in a medium flame.
STEP - 2
Once it cools down, release the pressure and open the lid. By now it should be cooked well, now add two table spoon of coconut oil and few sprigs of curry leaves into this and close the lid. We add coconut oil, to retain the moisture in the pressure cooked item and curry leaves, to maintain the aroma in the food.
STEP - 3
Now place a thick bottomed vessel, add 3 tbsp of coconut oiland gradually add crushed cumin, crushed pepper, chopped ginger and finally Asafoetida. Just saute for 2 minutes and pour the whole spluttered item into the pressure cooked item.
Close the lid immediately and after 5 to 10 minutes open the lid and mix the ingredients well. You can feel the aroma spreading around the room once you open the cooker.
To experience the authentic taste, it should be served hot. Preferred Indian curries that goes well with it atr sambar, vada and coconut chutney.
