When you want to give a gift to someone you love, you often give chocolates.
In particular, in Italy the most romantic of all chocolates is Bacio Perugina (“Bacio” means “Kiss”). This delight has become famous for its peculiarity of containing a message inside.

It was invented in 1922 by Luisa Spagnoli in Perugia, in central Italy.
The chocolate is round in shape, filled with gianduia, chopped hazelnuts and covered in dark chocolate. It is truly delicious!

Quando si vuole fare un regalo a qualcuno che si ama, spesso si regalano i cioccolatini.
In particolare, in Italia il più romantico di tutti i cioccolatini è il Bacio Perugina. Questa delizia è diventata famosa per la sua particolarità di contenere all’interno interno una frase.

È stato inventato nel 1922 da Luisa Spagnoli a Perugia, nel centro Italia.
Il cioccolatino è di forma tondeggiante, farcito con gianduia, granella di nocciola e ricoperto di cioccolato fondente. È davvero buonissimo!

The idea of adding a love phrase inside came in the thirties, thanks to the artistic director Federico Seneca. This triggered the real success of the brand, which today has also crossed national borders.

Legend has it that the inventor, Luisa, had the habit of writing short messages to her lover Giovanni, wrapping them around the chocolates that she then sent him.

Over the course of the product's life, different versions of Baci Perugina have been proposed: milk, with cherry, with caramel, with white chocolate, with lemon, with coffee, ... but the most famous is the classic one with silver paper and blue stars.

L’idea di aggiungere all’interno una frase d’amore è arrivata negli anni trenta, grazie al direttore artistico Federico Seneca. Questo ha scatenato il vero successo del brand, che oggi ha varcato anche i confini nazionali.

La leggenda dice che l’inventrice, Luisa, avesse l'abitudine di scrivere brevi messaggi al suo amante Giovanni, avvolgendoli attorno ai cioccolatini che poi gli mandava.

Nel corso della vita del prodotto, sono stati proposte diverse versioni dei Baci Perugina: al latte, con ciliegia, con caramello, con cioccolato bianco, con limone, con caffè, … ma il più famoso è il classico con la carta argentata e le stelline blu.

The phrases are present in different languages and some people collect them because they are really cute.
Some examples:

• “What would life be if we had no courage to try anything” (Vincent Van Gogh);
• “Love and do what you want” (St. Augustine).

Le frasi sono presenti in diverse lingue e alcune persone le collezionano perché sono davvero carine.

I didn't know about this chocolate, thank you very much for sharing this with us! The history (or legend) behind it is cool, the creator lady wrapping the chocolate into a massage to her loved one! 😍 Sooooo nice! Now I am intrigued, when I am next time in Italy if I can find a box of this chocolate to buy. :)

Oh my, a thousand memories came to my mind when I saw this post!... These Baci chocolates were some of the best in my country decades ago!... The first gift I gave my girlfriend in college (1987 if I remember correctly) was a box of Baci chocolates!.... And it turned out to be a good gift, we are still married after 35 years!... hahaha! 🤣.... Unfortunately I don't see this chocolate brand in our supermarkets anymore... ☹️
