The true Meaning Behind Ekombi Dance by Uruan, Efik and Calabar People

Hello everyone, I'm bringing to your notice, one of most outstanding dance among Uruan, Efik and Calabar people, dancing is one of those part of things that signifies a particular culture from the other, there are diverse traditional dance, which are peculiar to diverse culture, each dancing style tends to reflects the rich diversity. Also, different dancing and dances are used in different occasions and Ekombi is one of of the most famous dance which can only be displayed at ceremonial occasions of prominent elites only or during yearly festivals of Uruan, Efik and Calabar people.

Nigeria is blessed with diverse tribes of over two hundred tribes and each of these tribes has their unique culture with magnificent and adorning dances but I'm going to explore the amazing Ekombi dance of the Uruan people in Akwa Ibom State and Efik people of Calabar in Cross River State. Both Uruan people in Akwa Ibom State and Efik people in Cross River State shared many things in common though there are not from the same state rather a sister state but history hd it that, Efik people is made up of Uruan people who live in a settlement called Usak Edet in Cross River State before they migrated to Akwa Ibom State that's why till today, Uruan people are still the who adorn and coronate kings in Efik.

Beautiful enough, men can also dance Ekombi

These people has similarities in their culture, one of those shared cultures are Ekpe, Nsibidi and Ekombi dance, the Ekombi is usually displayed during yearly festivals or coronation of the kings and the death of a king, it's mainly the entertain the audience or spectators who came to graced the occasion and it's admired by all because of its beautiful attires and the dancing styles. It has amazing process, not just a random dance but it has a dance routines, beautiful costumes, attractive make-up, properties, music, and songs.

It's always attractive watching Ekombi dance

The true meaning of Ekombi dance is that the dance mimics the waves of the sea as the Uruan and Efik are coastal people surrounded with rivers and seas, and main form of occupation is fishing. The outstanding features of Ekombi dance is in the gentle flow of undulating body parts, meanwhile, the the right balance struck between obscene eccentricity and graceful swaying. The dancers are always adorned with multi-colored attires sewn in a mini skirt and blouse, they wore combs, necklaces, mirrors, they're heavily beaded on every limb and waist, they have flamboyant hairstyles which also caught the eye, the Ekombi dancers whine gracefully to the rhythmical beats of the drummers in the movement of ocean tides.

The Ekombi dancers attractive suitors as they admired their beautiful displays, before now, every mother wish her daughter should perform in Ekombi dance during festivals and coronations in order to bring in suitors.
