Hello everyone, welcome to my blog.
For some weeks now, it's been a regular market run for me, not the usual grocery or shopping with HBD that I often post here, but market run wey dey burst brain (an interesting market run) Hehehehe.
First off, in a couple of days from now, there's going to be an auspicious event in my family. 💃Yes, my elder sister's 25th marriage anniversary is just around the corner, and I'm so excited about it and equally grateful to God for keeping them together to celebrate this milestone. You know 25 years marriage anniversary no be 25 days. Lol.
It's going to be great event, with friends and family members coming from far and near. Call it family reunion, sort of and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, especially those I haven't seen in a long while.
Pertaining to the planning process, I've been been fully involved. You know say event planning na my second calling. Lol. One of the most exciting parts was sourcing materials for her outfit, the asoebi groups including that of immediate family members. You know how it is in this part of the world - when there's a celebration, asoebi groups will be fully on ground, adding color to the day. Lol. So we've been on a mission to get the best textiles. From luxury lace, ankara fabrics to traditional materials.
The first market run was sourcing luxury lace fabric for her outfit. She wanted bespoke design outfit, a gown to be precise, fit for the occasion. And since it's silver jubilee celebration, silver colored fabric was it.

So we visited Ekeoha shopping center, Aba to check out some samples. After checking out several sample lace materials in various shops, we picked this beautiful luxury lace, beaded to the teeth. Lol.
The moment I spotted it displayed at the counter, I told her this was it. And when the vendor brought it out for us to sample, she too fell for it.

Sorry, my phone camera didn't do justice to the fabric. It looks simple but yet classy, and the price ₦17,000 (12.71 HBD) per yard, so we bought 6 yards at ₦102,000 (76.26 HBD)
After picking the lace, next was to pick out mom's outfit. Here's was wrapper so we decided to go for something unique and different from her numerous wrapper materials. So we picked the traditional Rivers State George material, something similar to the Akwette material. But these ones have names such as Kukubute, Ekaki etc. (I just hope I got the names right). The prices range between ₦15,000 - ₦30,000 (12.21 HBD- 22.54 HBD)

The one we picked for mom. Isn't it beautiful?

She'll be pairing it with a white blouse and headgear. So we equally bought this beautiful fabric for the blouse plus asoke material for auto gele. Mama must look her best that very day, you no understand.
😂

Another day, we went to pick out Ankara samples for the various asoebi groups - her colleagues, club, friends and well wishers. The color of the day had silver, white, blue, so we needed to pick out samples that reflect those colors, and I tell you, It wasn't easy peasy.

However, after the usual scouting for nice designs, and of course good deal, we finally picked some nice Hitarget fabrics - ₦3,900 per piece. The price is actually between ₦4,000 to ₦4,500 (2.99 HBD - 3.36 HBD), depending on the quantity or number of yards to be bought. So we got a discount since we would be buying many. Before picking the samples, we considered designs that would fit both male and female, and which the females could also use for either wrapper, skirt and blouse, gown etc. We needed to accommodate everyone.
Various samples

The fabrics we picked.

Not gonna lie, the rate at which prices of lace materials, Ankara fabrics and other fabrics are skyrocketing by the day here is worrisome. No more lace of ₦2,000 a yard like we had it few years ago. Bale and sample materials are on a whole new level of price.

I understand everything is tied to the exchange rate or is it exchange duty, importation costs plus other miscellaneous expenses and profit too, but the vendors should be a bit considerate with their prices. People ain't finding it easy.

So that is it about my market run, keep an eye on this space for more. I just hope I'll be able to share all of them in due time. Lol. All the same, thanks for coming around.

Sourcing for fabrics for an event no be garri ooo. The hassle of picking just the right colour shade, tone and quality of material is something else.
Congratulations on advance to your Big sis on her upcoming Silver Jubilee. It is not a small something 💝
