ON THE ROAD: BACK TO MY ROOTS…

in Cross Culture2 years ago

2022 did not start the way I expected. I haven't had the time to plan for the year. For those who follow my page, they would have noticed my level of inactivity. This is not intentional. I have had a lot to deal with offline

After New year's Day I had to go to a village some 600km away from my residence. It was a hectic journey (as expected). As well as the stress, I had to spend a lot of money commuting to my village which was outside my budget but I had to because it was important.

So the major purpose of this journey is to bury my father (second time). My dad died and was buried in Venezuela where he resided. We could not cover the cost of getting his body to Nigeria.

My native custom requires us to perform some burial rites in our home town. I have been stalling for the past 3years because I don't necessarily believe in those things. However, after much pleading and pressure I succumbed to my relatives' demands.

Today has been stressful. Spent most of it running around to get the stuff we need for the burial rites (they include a goat, a chicken, yams, alcohol, etc). I also had to visit other relatives.

Tomorrow is the set date for the burial rites and I fear things might not go as planned. First, there seems to be disagreement as regards the arrangement and I think that might result in some form of conflict which might stall the ceremony.

I only have a day left. I have a presentation for a web-development job this week which I have not started. My other commitments on the hive are suffering. To be honest, I am not happy. I am not happy with the events of the past 2 months because it is impacting my productivity and creativity. I want my life back.

I can't wait to get this behind me and forge ahead. I have some big moves to make this year--one of which I am very excited about but I will keep that a secret for now. So here is just an update on the things I am doing. I think I owe it to those I am leading and also for clarity. Everything should be back to normal in no time. Cheers

Bro... All these village related stuff/customes always comes with alot of disagreement. But, don't worry.

As far as you get the goat, palm wine and other reasonable stuff they need, you won't have to be worried.

You said that tomorrow today is the day, I wish you well Bro.

Happy New Year To You.

Hope to see everything get wrapped up without any further disagreement
