The Eyo festival is the most celebrated festival in Lagos state situated in the western part of Nigeria. Its a tradition that has been in existence for ages and it is usually held on Saturdays.

This festival is otherwise known as Adamu Orisha Play, the headline of the event us gotten from the name of the festival"Eyo" which means masquerade. The Eyo festival is cultural and traditional masquerade display which usually emerged from the king's palace or any of his cabinet members.

This festival is believed to represent the spirit's of the ancestors. This festival maybe held in honour of a chief,or an elder of a ruling family or a king who has just passed away.It maybe also hold when a new head or a new king is installed.

Only adult males maybe robe as Eyo(Masquerade). Each Eyo comes out of the king's palace in the morning and heads to the shrine which is usually called Agodo. The masquerade is usually robbed from head to toe in white flowing cloth with a long stick in their hands and a hat on their heads and no part of the person wearing the masquerade costume must be seen.

It may seem strange and awkward to those who are not familiarized with the customs and tradition of the Lagosians, the festival is highly cherished by these people. The sons , daughters ,wives as well as friends and families and crowd of supporters join the Who(Masquerade) in parading from one part of lagos to another while singing and dancing.
