Street Text Message

An old saying goes, if you want to understand people's behavior, go on a journey instead of staying home all the time. Because on a journey, you will discover many things. Unexpected possibilities await, and you can learn from what you encounter, see, hear, and feel as your steps move forward.

Indeed, that wise saying holds true. The more you travel, the richer your experiences become. The broader and more developed your perspective on the world grows. Earlier today, I stumbled upon something unique while on the traffic lights at an intersection on the outside of the city. What I found made me want to share it with all of you.

I was directly behind a box truck, whose license plate indicated it was from another province. I assumed the truck had traveled thousands of kilometers. Its appearance suggested that it had spent years enduring the challenges of cross-province roads, exposed daily to the scorching sun, battered by storms, and drenched by rain.

However, what I want to discuss and share with you here isn’t the story of the truck itself. It's about what was written on the back of the truck. Judging by the font style and other details, it was clear the sentence had been written manually, probably with a finger tracing through the thick layer of dust on the truck's rear panel. There were actually several lines of text, but the one within a speech bubble stood out with its clear message.

The sentence, written in Indonesian, roughly translates to this in English: "We're street lovers, not lovers of widows in house dresses."

Not long after I read and snapped a photo of the sentence, the green light turned on, the truck in front of me sped off, and I continued my journey. Remembering the sentence, I couldn’t help but smile, letting my imagination run wild as I wondered what kind of events had inspired the writer to pen such a peculiar phrase.

Sort:

One could interpret that phrase in many ways. I have seen a million of em out here trucking for 33 years now.

My quick interpretation without much thought of that phrase would be someone likes sexy ladies and not homely looking ones? Or maybe life on the road and not being stuck at home ?

Good post 👍

Yup. It could have thousands of possibilities to interpret street text messages like that. But one of the most valuable things about the unique creativity of people on the road is a kind of humorous element that can cause a special kind of joy for other drivers. 😀

"Show Boobs" and "political crap" are the two most common here in the states. 👀
