RE: Here and there: Sixteen - Finland

or because we can’t stand listening someone butcher our mother tongue.

Exactly, because butcher it I would. It's not a pretty sight...or sound.

I remember talking with you about the TV/movie watching thing and it's a great place to learn because you get to see some context (body language and situations) where the words are used not just the words themselves. You've done a really good job though as it's easy to write to and talk with you in English and I often forget it's not your first language.

I don't mind watching films with subtitles. Watched a reasonable Finnish movie called Sisu a short while back which I liked and most recently the two latest three musketeer movies from France. I think it's nice to hear the actual intended language, sort of sets the tone. Sort of like talking to you...but maybe that's just because you have the cutest voice.

Sort:

Sisu is a great movie, and there was very little talking on it, I think the main character had not more than five lines, you won’t get far only learning those 😝 Though I would argue that the harder part of learning Finnish is actually to not have unnessessary small talk.

Yep it was bloody great and a really good depiction of what sisu is all about.

And for sure, the Finnish way is less talking, that's ok though, leaves time for other things.
