Just updated CapCut after few months. Big mistake.
For those who are not familiar with what CapCut is:
CapCut is a free (was free), all-in-one video editing and graphic design app developed by ByteDance, the company behind TikTok. It’s available on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and as a web-based platform, making it accessible for creating short-form videos for social media like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
CapCut showed up form nowhere and took the "simple editing" market few years ago. The growth in popularity in short videos was begging for a simple editing app that works on mobile and all other platforms. CapCut emerged as an easy to use video editor, where simple edits were easy, but also had some interesting effects, transitions and animations. And it was all for free.
I started using it mostly because of the option of autogenerating subtitles/captions. But the easy way of adding some simple transitions or animations was what kept me using it for short videos.
Every time i updated CapCat more and more features were being locked behind Pro Subscription wall. It kinda made sense for some "complicated" things, and i expected that.
But i updated CapCut yesterday, and went on to cut some clips for a Hive Short Video. I didn't really pay attention to stuff as i was just cutting and adding photos to the timeline. As i went to add some simple left/right transitions i was like WTF CapCut? Then i clicked on Animations. There are like 4 free animations that you would never use.
Last updated of CapCut made everything Pro. From the most simple transitions that even Adobe is giving out for free, to animations, stabilizing, 90% of things you would think of is now PRO.
And the most annoying thing is, i will probably have to pay for at least a month of PRO because i have 2 music projects started (almost finished) that i don't want to do all over again.
What are the alternatives at the moment?
Don't updated CapCut if you didn't do it alreadi!
DaVinci Resolve is a great editing program. Maybe a bit too complicated for beginners. And it is free for all the simple stuff (even some more complicated things). Think it lacks AutoCaption generation.
Was this move from CapCut just greed? Do they count that people got used to it so they will pay the subscription? Will something new show up on the market and use the same strategy as CapCut? So few years free for cool stuff?

Regarding CapCut, I used it 1-2 times and I didn't like it as I was used to YouCut... But, in the end, as both failed with some long videos, I switched to Canva, where you can also do video editing... At least, simple things that I need...
Btw. Canva had a similar "greed episode" a year (or so) ago when they tried to change their premium version rules... They hit a heavy rejection from the community, and in the end, they decided to keep the current rules and prices... Sometimes, pressure pays off... 😃

i had the ending in my heard the moment i saw Pro all over the app, so i had to make something. it involved me in front of it :D
It was first made with mobile in mind so it lacked a lot of things for editing, but they did make it better and made some effects and transitions really easy (in some other programs it would need a bit of work).
It was weird as every time you update a small part of what you used is now PRO, but this one was like everything is PRO.
DaVinci is great for more serious projects but sometimes a bit to complicated for simple stuff.
Maybe i will have to check out with my old friend what is the offer there :D

nisam ocekivao da ce bukvalno najjednostavnije tranzicije postati pro... kapiram one "AI" fore i komplikovanije stvari, al sad je skoro sve pro :D
Bas sam se razocarala.. a tako je brutalna aplikacija. Svi ti “veliki” polude za lovom i onsa propadnu na kraju. Nadam se da ce se opametiti i vratiti barem dio za đ😭
Can't you uninstall it and find the previous version of it? It should easily solve your problem
i think it is possible on PC but you still need to find the old installer on some "file sharing sites" 😂
That's definitely greedy, man. A lot of apps are doing that now. You can use our program for free, but only a small part of it XD If you want to use everything, you have to be a premium user. I definitely agree that it's frustrating, there are fewer and fewer things that are free and of good quality.
i would have no problems with it if they did it like DaVinci. This is free and if you want more buy the program. But in CapCut every time i updated some of the things i used in a project were now PRO. Last update literally everything is PRO. They left some transitions and animations that you would see in the 90's and think they were cringe 😂

yes most of the new apps are goin the same way. start free with everything and end up with pay a subscription for everything.
Sucks.
It’s annoying. And to think that they most times don’t give heads up.
