This video is a walkthrough of Base Camp, a tool I've been building on Hive, funded through a DHF proposal that gave out Claude/AI subscriptions back in July. It's built on top of Denser (hive.blog) but designed as an SDK so any front end could plug it in.
The core idea: Base Camp is a feed of new Hive users (accounts under a year old), each shown as a "postcard" with visual cues about their activity. Rings around the profile picture show account age (green for brand new, turquoise for 90 days to half a year, gray for half a year to a year) and how active they've been on chain. This solves two problems at once. New users show up with no idea who to connect with, and existing users who want to support good new accounts have a hard time finding them by just scrolling the feed.
New users can pick interests (photography, art, writing, crypto, etc), and OGs can offer to be "guides" in those same areas. Behind the scenes the app matches them up. I called it "guide" instead of "mentor" because mentor felt too sticky.
The postcard itself packs in a ton of info: comment history, self vote percentage, who's voting for them and how much, transfer history, delegation activity, active hours, and a "sus" button where you can flag an account as a bot, sock puppet, or extractor and leave a note. The goal isn't to punish anyone, it's to surface real, legitimate new users so the community can support them, and flag likely bots or farms so curation projects like those already out there can use that data.
I spent a chunk of the video going through real accounts live, showing how you read the cues: repeated generic comments, too-perfect replies, self voting patterns, posts that read like AI (lots of em dashes, no personality, jumping straight into information dumps). Some accounts felt clearly like farming operations, others felt like real humans just being new and awkward, which is honestly the best sign.
There's also a gamified side called Puppet Patrol...with games like "Newbie or Not to Be" that shows first ever posts so you can practice spotting real versus fake, and a "Sock or Not" game that tries to find accounts farming. Another game called Bot or Not, to evaluate if the account is just AI.
Eventually I'd like to add a proof of human badge system for vetted accounts. And other badges of accounts vetted to be genuine.
I also teased another project/game called H.I.V.E.R. ... a little game that turns the last 30 minutes of chain activity into a walkable world where you can visit live posts, and with J Sons minions trying to take you out or slow you down... but that's for another video.
Feedback and ideas for the postcard are very welcome.

That does look impressive and offers lots of insight. It can take some work to see if someone is 'legitimate' and the AI stuff will only get better. We all want to see more real human engagement rather than just a stream of generated content.
Looks like a step in the right direction.
Yes…the goal was to strike that balance of ease, fun, and usefulness.
Cheers
I remember a few years ago we discussed preventing spam and abuse, maybe even before the HW time... Anyway, this tool looks like a perfect fit for that, in a "decentralized" way... This is an alternative to DHF funding for a 1-person fight against abuse, and the right approach to a more sustainable solution! I love it!
You nailed it, and you made some useful metrics inside it... Hopefully, we could all work on it soon...
Thanks for doing this for the community!
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions Posts!
Please consider voting for our Liotes HIVE Witness. Thank you!
Appreciate that! Yes the idea was more of a swarm HW. Make it fun so we could all kinda keep chain safe also while not squandering reward pool on extractors.
The GitHub is public. So anyone can run the code and use it. Gotta be a bit techy at this point. But yeah. Hope it could be just part of hive.blog at some point. Not sure how to do the next step really. Guess the code would need to be reviewed and tweaked before being deployed. Not sure if the core team even wants something like this. There are a few bits i find really useful. The game newbie or not to be. That is great for just having all the first ever posts from the last 24 hours, finding those real new users is key. Another thing id like to create, ‘my vetted newbies’ feed. So people can choose there own vetted people they find and put them in a feed so they can continue to support with ease in the future.
Very cool! It is nice to see new things being developed on the chain. Also a great way to introduce people to new users and figure out if they are worth it or not.
Thanks m8. Yeah, the tricky bit is that assessment. Ai certainly makes it easy to dupe. Not sure the deal with many accounts i saw, seemed like they had an ai from years ago…was easy to spot. Lazy farmers i guess. 😜
I think sometimes translation software shows up at AI too, so maybe that was part of it. People have been using that longer than they have been using AI I think.
Great work Butt!
Love to see you've been busy with Base Camp. Always a good idea to welcome new users and offer a helping hand if they need it.
Yeah, really feels like a needle in a haystack these days, so i figured anything to make it easier couldn’t hurt. 😎. thanks for checking it out.
how awesome! great work there.
Thanks M8
Oh, a way to welcome new HIVE users? That's nice... This made me think DHF does get used for good things sometimes...

Yeah, even though it was a very small amount of dhf funding, the effect for me was a sense of responsibility to create something useful for the community.
is interesting but doesnt look friendly as user experience personally i preffer do simply tools not show so much things and expect that the user understand quickly, just try to offer the new tool to solve a specific problem and prevent disorienting the user :D it is a good work also :D
Well i was certainly attempting to build something easy to use. Just hovering over each icon explains. The reality is that everyone has there own way of exploring… so i gave a handful of key tools so all was right there. Doesn’t mean you need to use each one. Just the ones you find helpful. I think it may be easier than it feels at first glance. As well using the tool isn’t really designed for new users, it more for OG users that know the platform and want to vote on legitimate new users, not just extractors. Thanks for checking it out 😎

STOPA DHF-funded project built with Claude — meta enough that I almost expected the AI to write the post too 😄 Jokes aside, Base Camp looks like a genuinely useful tool for builders on Hive who want a smoother on-ramp into development.
The video walkthrough format is the right call — some things are just easier to show than explain. Quick question: what's the one feature of Base Camp you think will surprise developers the most when they first try it?
