Vanity (and vulnerability): your thoughts on Make-up

I've been doing videos for a bit now, and I've really been enjoying them. They take a LOOOONG time to do though. They take a lot out of your day, a lot out of you - but all in all - they're still pretty fun!!

As I was thinking about the things that STOP me from making a video on any given day - I realized that MOST of the reasons have to do with my VANITY hahahaha

  • My hair is a mess
  • I don't feel like putting makeup on
  • Have I gained weight?? I am POSITIVE I've gained weight LOL.

Not to mention what I should wear, where I should record... you name it, I've use it as an excuse lolol

And as I was thinking about it, sitting there on my bed - NOT wanting to go out in the rain, hair super un-cute, not only WITHOUT makeup - but last night's mascara darkening the circles under my eyes - I thought. Yup. We're gonna tackle this VANITY thing head on. hahhaha

So even though this video is kinda like a little "intro" - it DOES hit some raw nerves (with pictures.. ughhhh pictures) from some sadder times for me.

However, I did it for a purpose.

I'm opening the door for anyone who struggles with ANY of the things that I'll be bringing up in this series to say... hey, now you can see that I've been there too. You're not alone and hopefully, by the end of all of these videos - we've kinda acknowledged our flaws, embraced them, and we can even hope to become grateful for how they've shaped and molded us.

This is NOT going to be a series where I'll shame you on one side of the line or the other. If you love makeup - I hope you feel fabulous every time you get dolled up. If you love going au natural - ROCK that fresh face! (I like BOTH!)

But this IS going to be a series where you're invited to share your vulnerabilities, encourage anyone else whose needing it, appreciate the OTHER opinion, and sink comfortably into our own skin.

Also - if you're in the process of changing something on your body - I'd love to hear about the whole journey! I'll be sharing things I'm changing on mine! Hope you're interested in my journey too.

Last but not least, I hope you end up loving who you are on the inside first and foremost.

Wanna join in? You're invited to watch the video, and begin! hehehe

MEN - A LOT OF YOU KNOW, I love giggling and teasing - but I'll just say - this is not the space for a free-for-all 😉 You're more than welcome to drop comments if you're interested in ANY of these topics. But tread carefully, please. ❤️

I was one of those who had good skin, I can't remember a time when I had a pimple that bothered me.

However, ... can't believe I am going to share this - I am a hairy person. So when I was about in teens, hair is growing everywhere right... and that included my face. I had a moustache.
And you know what silly me did? I shaved and made it worse. My whole upper lip turned green from the shaving and I'm not kidding!
My grandmother scolded me, my aunties laughed at me and I did not leave the house for 2 days until the soreness subsided. You can bet I learnt to live with my moustache until I was an adult and discovered threading.

If you had not shown me those pics, I would not have believed you had such bad skin at any point in your life.
Thank you for sharing, I'm sure it wasn't easy <33

You are gorgeous by the way and no- you really don't need make-up.
But I do get it because I too struggle with videos partly because of this (and the other thing is the boys are so loud that after a while I get tired of screaming "quiet on set!!!!" haha).

It really wasn't easy to share those pics... but I had chills when you shared your story too.

I actually have tears in my eyes. lol Isn't that silly? but it's not silly really.

Because that's what I love so much about being able to connect across thousands of miles - through words and videos and stories that impact us.

I love that so much. Because it's real. you know? So much of this world is SO FAKE. and so "perfect" and political and guarded.

and I just totally felt you let down your walls and lay it here in the comment section. and really -that's just an invitation for others to do the same.

But even if they don't... we just had it :) And that makes the video and the fear and all that so worth it! hehehehe

My heart breaks for you at that time. I mean it's hard enough to struggle with those things - and then try to fix it on your own because you just can't take it anymore. And I'm sure that your family were just having fun with you because "you were a kid that did something funny" to them. But my heart is BREAKING for that child right now. It's so sad to finally have the courage to DO something, and then to be laughed at (even if they meant no harm) really makes its mark. and I know you're ok now! hahahahaha I know we are BOTH ok because we made it through and learned the right way to handle our "stuff" LOL And we are OK! LOL

but that's what i mean about embracing it all. shedding a tear maybe - thanking God that time is OVER, taking a deep breath, connecting, and moving forward embracing all that we are now. hehehe

i love you so much. and today i am so excited for 2022. i think that something from your drEEm box might come true. hehehe (i'll say no more for now - but I'm believing it) :)

It’s your bravery that’s made me step up to say hey, so this is me.
I am always so happy when those in a position of influence like celebrities and like you step up and make it okay.

Love ya mucho mucho @dreemsteem

I'm really glad you did - because even though I did - I was feeling a little bit out there.. you know. hehehehe it was nice to hold your hand out there together

❤️

I think most of all this has to do with what we imagine that the rest of the world would say about us and our facials.

Like you said, this used to be something that you ladies we are paranoid about, but at the moment, we see a lot of guys looking at the mirror 7 times before stepping out of their door. Hehe. Funny. Isn't it?

I have to add that I probably wouldn't have been able to notice that you didn't wear make-up. The only time it was crystal clear that you had make-up on was in those Udemy course you prepared last year. Heheh.

Remember that?

hahahahahahahahahaha well yes - that was for a class online - right??? i needed my red lips ;)

but I do often wear makeup in my videos - a little lipstick, blush, mascara. but it takes me 3 minutes or less to put on hahahahahaha

I can't do the whole face thing for longer anymore - no no no. hahahahaha not me.

and yes - its true - you see what i mean? we hear that women are the vain ones - but i think its just an old saying that keeps getting repeated without any merit anymore LOL

because men have the same issues ;)

thank you so much for your comment @makeitrain4ever!!!!

@creativemary I just read your beautiful blog - and I made this video the other day... and it made me think of what you were saying... maybe it will resonate with you :)

no need to upvote or comment - just enjoy it if you like! :)

Well done you!😍You look gorgeous in your skin btw. Most people would kill for your gorgeous complexion and tones ha ha. It's always lovely when people dig deep within themselves and share their vulnerability with others. It allows us all to feel more comfortable !LUV
