It makes me wonder but I don't think it's a bad thing for the mining companies to sell directly to people. The gold/silver futures markets is interesting and I think it's heavily manipulated too.
And we will know the jig is up when gold & silver flow stops at the border.

Do the mining companies actually have profit to their side at the end of the day
Depends on company but generally they do indeed. But production costs have moved up dramatically so margins aren’t huge and a reduction in prices in metals could end outfit for a period indeed.
Hmmm that's true and also considering the uncertainty that might pop up in the future
