Let's continue with the plan of sharing (hopefully useful) videos with you guys here on HIVE... Today's topic is Crypto Investing in 2026! As you know, I do like HIVE, but I don't want to ignore all the other cryptocurrencies out there... Being in this space for almost a decade, I was here in good days, and in bad days too... I do repeat some mistakes from the past, but I did change my behaviour a lot too...
Probably the most important lesson that I learned is that the main difference is made in the BEAR markets! Instead of hiding under the rock, waiting for the tokens to shoot up again, these moments are crucial to be around, to "listen" to the markets, to follow developments... It's much easier to do all that because there is almost NO NOISE which is unsupportable during the bull markets, when everyone is shilling their tokens, and everyone is going to the Moon...
Those projects and apps that are being developed during the bear, who are tightening up their tokenomics, who work on useful tools for their communities, are those who WILL STAY... If you are here when it's the hardest, you will probably not escape when it's time to ripen the fruits...

On the other side, it's not that only WE ARE CHANGED and learned things through these years, but the CRYPTO SPACE itself has changed a lot! It's not the same investing in tokens NOW, or 10 years ago... There are literally thousands of tokens out there, hundreds of blockchains, and who knows how many crypto-related apps, compared to maybe a dozen a decade ago!
We have experimented a lot, certain ideas survived, some ideas slowly died, but the space priorities and approach to crypto changed... You can't buy ANY token and expect it will go to the moon in the next bull... You have to pay attention to more things, and you have to research it much better... Luckily, it's not that hard to check out a few VERY IMPORTANT things even before thinking of buying some token...

Crypto has matured now I think to the point that investing solely based on narrative/hype is a thing of the past. With blockchains, this check lists can be researched on chain in detail to make better informed decisions. For me, the inflation dynamic is one that I'm gradually understanding better. I used to think the staking will offset it by default but when you consider that it's in a bear market and many tokens don't recover their all time high, it's not worth the staking and grabbing more of the token.
I have to admit that I was "ignoring" the inflation and unlocks for tokens, which was a huge mistake... Dilutions are real, VCs are real, and big whales are scared... It looks like everyone is waiting for the biggest dump of tokens... So, I don't believe in a straight line up to the right... Of course, when sentiment changes, people will change opinions, but still... the grind up will be slow (if it happens soon)...
Staking for the sake of staking makes no sense... And I already saw some tokens "closing" their staking program, searching for other ways of removing liquid tokens... IMO, burning through use case is the best way... at this moment...

They were among the best performers in 2024.. As long as you stuck to large caps.

Yes, I don't care about memes, but AI and memes gave the best ROI in 2024. L2 with -20% ouch. Gaming sucked aswell probably bcs the hype in previous cycle. What will be the best sector in 2027 🤔
I never thought about it that way, but the no noise factor is actually a massive advantage of a down market. In the bull market, every project looks like a world-changer. In 2026, only the ones with actual utility and tightened tokenomics are still standing.
The bear market will probably last a bit more, and we will see which tokens will survive this "cleansing"... There is still plenty of time to check projects and see which have a good foundation...
You know, I'm not very familiar with the crypto world, but your advice is worth considering.
Unfortunately, most tokens were following traditional fiat (money) printing strategy... That's one of the reasons why I don't like these high APRs on our chain either... 15% is too much for HBD, and even HP around 10-12% (staking + curating) is a bit too much... + DHF spending on top of it...

Diversify is important, not just in crypto... As you say the hardest part is pick which ones to buy with all the thousands of tokens around... That's on your instinct I think
When I followed my "instinct," it didn't go well... lol... I'm following the checklist that I mentioned in the video... After that, maybe I could use the instinct too... 😂
I think it's a good checklist, but I have some doubts about any of the second layer tokens. I think that the top tokens seem like the things people touch. It's hard to pick the right tokens.
Oh, it's definitely harder to pick good tokens as there are millions... I mean, not just on HIVE, but in general...
And regarding top tokens, some of the Top10 tokens from a decade ago have vanished too... So, even those aren't a "safe bet."
I think true growth might happen when we spend time examining and learning from how the market moves.
Well, both sides are moving, and should be moving... If we don't grow, learn, and change our way of investing, we will not grow... Nobody was born with all the knowledge, and everyone had to learn step by step... 😃
