Disruption: A Concept Not To Underestimate

Disruption is something that people believe they understand yet it appears the do not have a full grasp on it. This is one of the most important concepts of our age.

We live in a time when disruption is happening all over the place. The key to get about this concept is that disruption obliterates things. It is not a subtle process. Sure, it is hidden for a long period of time and then it is everywhere.

In this video I discuss how important it is to be firmly aware the depth of this idea. There are a few examples with timelines which help to illustrate how many people missed what was happening before them.

3speak not playing ball today, so another one I'll try and come back to. But yes, disruption isn't slowing down any time soon, so best to embrace it!

While we live in an era of disruptive technologies, many use it as a buzz word to draw attention to their product and nothing more ( Theranos comes to mind)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That might be true but the buzz is not the technology nor the improvements made.

And for every Theranos, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of companies working on viable solutions.

Those who get caught up in those types of situation miss the entire boat. It is the same with crypto, those who believed it was all scams and criminals.

Buzz is what gets presented on the news, technology can be complicated to grasp and predict even for professionals, I mean the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) even featured Theranos on their youtube channel, if anyone they should have known better

I am very interested in how 3D printing will transform the industry. I just don't know how far spread it will become because housing will be under pressure from the decreased building costs. It would mean anyone can possibly create anything if they had a printer and materials.

It would mean anyone can possibly create anything if they had a printer and materials.

That is exactly what it means. People will be producing things for pennies on the dollar compared to what it costs today. A piece often overlooked is the fact that, when we get personalized 3-D printers, the shipping costs for products goes away.

This is really the game changer. We are a long way from that point where you will be printing a lot of your necessities in your house. But we are moving towards it, albeit slowly at this point.

All of manufacturing will become disrupted.

Summary:
In this video, Task discusses the concept of disruption and the impact it has in various industries due to technological advancements. He emphasizes how complex systems and exponential growth are changing traditional systems and how disruptive technologies like fintech, AI, blockchain, and decentralization are reshaping industries. Task uses examples from retail, banking, and predicts the potential disruptions in sectors like ranching, car manufacturing, education, and healthcare due to advancements in technology like autonomous vehicles, 3D printing, and telemedicine. He cautions viewers to consider these factors while making career and investment decisions in light of rapid technological advancements.

Detailed Article:
Task starts off by highlighting the common misunderstanding of disruption, noting how many people fail to grasp the depth of change that technology is bringing about. He elaborates on the exponential growth of complex systems using the example of the internet and how it continually evolves with added layers of complexity through AI, advanced algorithms, and quantum computing.

The discussion then shifts to the impact of disruption in the banking sector, where he emphasizes the rise of fintech and its challenges to traditional banking models. Task provides insights into how mortgage origination and car loans have shifted away from traditional banking systems, along with the effects of eliminating trading fees in brokerage houses. He also touches on the inefficiencies of physical locations for transactions in an increasingly digital world.

Moving on to retail, Task illustrates how the retail apocalypse and the decline of major chains like Sears demonstrate the failure to adapt to changing consumer behaviors and online shopping trends. He warns against linear thinking and urges viewers to consider exponential growth in technology and its disruptive effects on various industries.

Task further delves into the impact of technology on the workforce, citing examples of automation's influence across sectors like construction, healthcare, and education. He predicts major disruptions in the near future, especially through decentralization and technologies like blockchain, edge computing, and powerful AI.

The conversation extends to the imminent changes in transportation with autonomous and electric vehicles threatening traditional car manufacturers. Task also speculates on the future of industries like universities and healthcare, suggesting a potential overhaul in their operations due to advancements in telemedicine, AI, and personal monitoring devices.

The video wraps up with a bold prediction on the radical changes upcoming in manufacturing through 3D printing and its implications on multiple industries like shipping, trucking, and railroads. Task emphasizes the importance of understanding these disruptions for making informed decisions in careers and investments, guiding viewers on where to focus in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
