Step into the captivating realm of the Division School Press Conference, where voices echo with passion and purpose, resonating with the rich tapestry of Filipino culture and language.

Joining competitions is quite challenging, especially when you are bringing the name of the school. As a student, it is a big opportunity to join big competitions and bring the school’s name with you.
I was a Grade 12 STEM student who was chosen to be one of the students who will represent the school in the Division School Press Conference as a journalist, in the category of Filipino Radio Broadcasting, to be exact.
It actually happens pretty quickly. My classmate called me out of nowhere while I was in our room, dragging me to the second floor. As we got there, I had no idea what to do. Then one of our teachers announced that we would be holding a quick screening to select the students who would represent the school at the forthcoming Division School Press Conference by being members of the Filipino Radio Broadcasting category. At that moment, I'm not sure how to respond. I’m just going with the flow and joining the screening until it ends. What happens next? guess what? I am one of the students who have chosen to join journalism. I'm not expecting to be one of the students who represents the school because I haven't participated in journalism in a while. I believe that my last participation was in sixth grade. The chance to participate once more is greatly appreciated.

On the first day of practice, we are still shy and awkward with each other because I don’t really know them except for my classmate, who was chosen too. They are Grade 11 STEM students who have talent in this kind of competition. We are older than them, so we really tried our best to guide them because we are also the ones who have experience in this kind of competition. The first day went very well.

On the second day of practice, we can now talk to each other comfortably, giving each other opinions on the flow of our script and giving each other roles, whether anchor or news presenter. And I am one of the anchors that have been chosen. The second day is more good.

On the third day of practice, our coach is not with us because she is at the competition venue, coaching another category, so we decided to practice with ourselves only and enhance our speaking abilities in doing our roles. As we practice, our bond gets closer and we get more comfortable with each other. I am glad that they are already comfortable with us, and I've also seen their sweet and jolly side calling us Ate and Kuya, which makes my heart melt.☺️ They really consider us older sisters and older brothers, and they really respect us in any way that they can. This is one of the best days of practice.
The Day
This is it, the day of the competition, where we will be competing with other schools. I am very excited and nervous as well. I am praying that all of the efforts, time, and hard work we put in will pay off at the end of this day.
At 8 AM in the morning, we’re already gathered at the venue, which is held at Tuyan Elementary School, together with our coach. It’s very exciting. Before the competition started, there was a short orientation for all the contestants in each school, starting with singing the national anthem, the sugbo hymn, and the naga hymn, followed by a prayer, and then the orientation itself. One of the teachers explains the rules, the dos and don'ts, and especially the flow of the competition, then the criteria for judging.
As the competition begins, we are only given 1 hour for script writing, 30 minutes for preparation and practice, and 5 minutes for presenting. We are waiting for their signal to start. As it started, the first thing we did was distribute the news to each one of us that matched our roles. My role is an anchor and a new presenter, and at the same time, it gave me more pressure because I am also the one who will encode our scripts and make the flow of them. The time really flies so quickly, and it ends up with script writing. The preparation and practice started, so we decided to practice our lines together with the stinger; in that way, we would not be confused. End of preparation and practice.
We simply relaxed our voices and stopped practicing as we waited our turn; we are the fourth presenter. While we waited, we had already eaten lunch and some snacks. When it's finally our turn, I get really anxious; my hands are icy and my heart races as though someone is going to save me. We are encouraging one another to think that we can succeed while praying together. They go over everything once more as we walk into the classroom before letting us get started. I remind myself at the beginning that we can succeed and that nothing can prevent us from trying our hardest.
We never allowed our weakness to win, we feel accomplished when we leave the classroom. Relocating to our area, we await the outcome. I can immediately sense my nervousness as the teacher takes the stage to announce the winners. I paid close attention to what he was saying. I want to cover my ears because I'm too nervous to hear anything when the Filipino radio broadcasting category is about to be announced. I became anxious when they began announcing the winners from fourth to first place since I didn't hear the name of our school. When it comes time to declare the winner, and it's not us, I am gradually losing hope. We received no accolades, not even in the minor category. While other schools are enjoying their victories, I am unhappy and jealous.
Abruptly, an additional voice emerges from the microphone, expressing regret for the mistake committed by the winners. Once again, I hope that this is our chance to shine. I am not very sure because our paper has so many modifications when it comes to the Best in Script Writing announcement. I'm in shock that our school received Best in Script Writing as soon as I hear its name. As we made our way to the stage to receive our medals beside our coach, I felt like crying.
We were so happy that we sprang into our chairs, but our joy didn't fade when we heard that we had placed second. We are in second place! Naga Senior High School! We were so happy inside that we couldn't stop jumping and shouting.
Our efforts have truly paid off. It did not let me down. They never let me down. That concludes my most treasured division school press conference moment.
