If you listen to the word of God, you must do it with consciousness. We hear preaching every day, we hear the word of God every day, but when we are listening to the word of God, it's not just about hearing but also doing the word, meditating on the word and living according to the word.
This is what it means when we address in James 1:22, it says that we should not be only the doers of the word but we should not be only the hearers, but the doers of the word also.
Jesus himself also made it known in Matthew 13:15, he said that there are people who listen to their ears and understand with their hearts. This shows that the word cannot just be heard through their hearts. We have learned that in our personal life that we should know what is good and bad and yet use the word of God that we have heard to evaluate it.
The word of God is supposed to be like a hope and a counsel to others. We are supposed to listen to the word of God so that we can remember it's our hearts and we can also teach it to others. Listening can be considered as given the opportunity by God to know his will and his purpose.
