Luke 5:5 (NKJV)
5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have TOILED ALL NIGHT and CAUGHT NOTHING; nevertheless at Your word I will let DOWN THE NET.”
Our past experiences can and will often try to hinder us from 'fully' trusting God and acting upon His Word.
After Peter was gracious enough to give his boat as a 'seed' to Jesus to preach with, he allowed his experiences to limit his harvest. We must learn to open our hearts and receive freely and fully from God.
Jesus instructed Simon Peter, "... Launch out into the deep and let down your NETS for a catch" (Luke 5:4). Notice the instruction was to lay down his 'NETS' but the Bible says in verse 5 that Simon Peter said, "...I will let down THE NET.”
He decided to cast a single net instead of casting as many nets that were available into the sea! The reason he wasn't bold enough to fully follow through the instruction was because of his experience in the night. He told Jesus, "...Master, we have TOILED ALL NIGHT AND CAUGHT NOTHING; nevertheless..." He didn't want to raise his hopes too high! Though he got a miracle with the single net that was cast and his boat even began to sink that he had to beckon to his partners to come and help him, it still wasn't Jesus' best for him. Imagine if only he had cast all those available nets as instructed. He acted upon the Word with caution!
Where you are is good but with the Father there's always a better place and you mustn't allow your past experiences, pain, hurts or disappointments stop you from fully reaching out to act upon His Word because He has much more in store for you if you'll only keep trusting Him. Let go your past and fully embrace the future God has for you!
This week is pregnant with opportunities, reach out in faith and step out on God's unfailing Word because I see all your nets (expectations) tearing and all your boats sinking in Jesus mighty name!
