Praise ye the Lord! It's another moment here today to share my view on the topic " peer group" as discussed by bro Eli. Peer group is one of the agent of socialization. Man grows and gets to stages in life. The youthful stage is however a very significant level of human development. It's a period when people want to mingle with their peers and explore. This stage is often characterized by enjoyment, freedom, peer pressure and likes. Decisions and actions made in this youthful stage could go along way to make or more a person.
According to Romans 12:1, as discussed by bro Eli, youthful days shouldn't be for reckless living or imorality. Our youthful days should be dedicated to God. Our days of youth are our days of strength and in it , we are to serve God and worship Him. Youthful stage is not a period to be influenced negatively by peer group and do those things which are not convenient, Romans 1:28.
A close look into the society today, shows a lot of peer pressure ,moral decadence such as terrorism, sexual assaults, drug abuse, addiction and lots. Many of the youth that participate in this were mostly introduced by peer group. This negative influence has destroyed a lot of lives and rendered many useless. A lot of youth are in rehabilitation centre, trying to get help to finding a new path. The Bible made us to understand how Amnon was misled by his friend Jonahdab, a very subtil man., who gave him wrong advice to sleep with his own sister.
It is worthy to note also, that it's not all peer groups that destroy. In fact, pressure from bad friends should be shunned. Some friendships are blessings. The Bible says that there is a friend that is closer than a brother, Romans 18:24. A friend can influence one's life positively, offering guidance and good advice. Peer group like that of the 3 Hebrew: Sharach, Meshach and Abednego. Friends like David and Jonathan are good friends. Jonathan supported David So, it is important that we choose the right peer group to avoid being misled due to unnecessary pressure. I pray we shall not be destroyed in Jesus name.
