Hello brethren,
I want to contribute to the question," Was Jesus Christ Crucified on a stake or on a cross? (Part 2 of 2).
Was Jesus Christ nailed on the cross or a stake?
The word "cross" in the New Testament comes from the Greek word stauros. The study of word origins shows that stauros simply means an upright "stake" or "post."
It can be a post or stake as the Greek Bible implies, there is no contradiction to that.
The apostle said ; Jesus was nailed to the cross which is the same.
Interestingly, other biblical writers describe the instrument of Christ's death as a "tree.
Jesus was nailed on a wooden tree . According to the book of Acts 13:29-30: "Now when they had fulfilled all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the tree and laid Him in a tomb.
History tells us that during the times of the Romans, many people were often crucified on a stake, this was the same as being crucified on a cross, except there was no crossbeam, the hands of the condemned were raised above their heads, one put on top of another, and then nailed to the wood with a single nail, the feet were done the same whether a pole or cross, one nail through both feet.
It doesn't necessary means that a cross must have a cross beam.
Bible is so plain and simple. Whether it is a cross, a post, a tree all are the the same. They are just synonyms.
Thanks for reading.
